A nasty contingent especially going away who suddenly materialised singing George Hirst hates Palestine and even worse.

This is only going to embolden them.

People are entitled to their political views. But having ITFC, a family club built on class and one that was always gentle and mannered and decent, being used as brash propaganda for Reform is not on.

I wouldn't have had any problem with him having a tour and taking a photo with b the ground. It's the fact that we seem to have actively courted them and then assisted in ba promotional campaign.

Yep absolutely my biggest concern. Already seen some tweeting about some potential pro Farage songs we could use.

Poll: Will Paul Lambert be Ipswich Town manager on the final day of this season ?

I've refrained from mentioning this, as until receiving a call from South Yorkshire Police this morning, I was on bail for affray for confronting the group singing those songs. The case against me has now been dropped.

As well as the George Hirst hates Palestine song, they were also singing "England will be Abdul-free", and perhaps most significantly now, "on the charge with Farage". I spent 9 hours in a cell in Sheffield and missed the game.

The club's abhorrent course of action on this makes me sick to my stomach, and will no doubt embolden those who think this sort of behaviour is acceptable, both in public and at our club.

Well done for saying something.

Might be worth contacting the club to let them know if you haven't already. Perhaps join the dots for them between that sort of behaviour and their recent decision to roll the red carpet out for Farage too, as they're probably too thick to do it themselves.

Glad you're released without charge.

Anyone singing those songs are worse than a scum fan.

Although as you were released without charge, it sounds like they didn't get what was coming to them.

Ps. Don't answer or reply, don't want you getting in trouble.

But has the club ‘actively courted them’? The Athletic says:

‘The Athletic has seen a message sent by an associate of a senior club figure to a Reform official asking for a meeting with Farage during his visit to the town.’

My expectation is that this publication will name that associate of a senior club figure and publish the message in full. When they do that, for me it will have more credence and the question can be asked of the club - why? It can then also be asked why it lied and who is accountable for that.

That publication exists to sell copy. Has anyone considered that they might not be telling the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth with no distortion or filling in? Maybe they are but if so it’s possibly the first time ever. I know having seen how media operates that much of it is rubbish, distortion and lies.

Secondly, we have the infamous shirt signing. Who took the pic? Why wasn’t it taken when he’d finished signing it? Why would Ashton want a discounted signed shirt? Why would he allow it to be taken and if he is proud of his Reform leanings, why is he not in the picture? Why does the writing look so odd? Is the image photoshopped? It isn’t that hard to do. Lots of questions, no answers.

My point is that it’s easy to see something, assume it is fact, especially if it accords with your views, and develop further facts and views from there. It’s why social media is so dangerous.

I have no problem with him or any other politician privately taking a tour if they pay their money but the key is the word private. I still think the club have been naively and stupidly mugged off on this and have seen no actual evidence to counter that. Allowing yourselves as the club have to be hijacked like that is unacceptable.

So, if my assumptions are correct, they have to learn from it and not get put in that position again. What I’d have liked to have seen in the club statement was a comment that it will not allow itself to be used as a political football again and political parties are not welcome and will be kicked out if they try it on.

Currently we have the Athletic/New York Times saying they have been told it by a Reform source and have seen communications to that fact. We also have Nigel Farage directly saying he was invited by the football club.

Meanwhile the club has not said anything to dispute either of those accounts.

The shirt thing is speculative, it might not even say Mark.

Thank you. I don't think there's any harm in me saying that group of Sheffield Wednesday fans saw it all unfold and piled in on them when it got physical, leaving some of the group with significant injuries - hence my arrest and bail for perceived involvement. An unfortunate day for me, but all's well that ends well.

The Athletic/NYT article is the same and claim to have seen comms to that fact. Well, why can’t they publish them? They must exist. Farage’s says? Well he’s hardly going to say ‘I wheedled my way into the club and wrung it out like a PR sponge’. If Farage is Ashton’s new mate, his secretary will have the correspondence showing that invite. Let’s see it.

Until then we are relying on words printed in a publication and Farage’s version. Hardly sources I’d die on a hill to defend - unless one supports Reform of course as many strange people do.

In terms of the club refuting stuff, I’m in two minds whether it should or it shouldn’t. I was involved with something that made mainstream media some years ago and this precise question was asked.

The big hitters decided to not comment and let it die. To this day that aporoach annoys me, but then journalism and political awareness are right at the bottom of my somewhat limited (if any) skills list!

Well done you!!

I’m stunned the police were dopey enough to hold you for that time. They should have shaken you warmly by the hand and driven you to the ground.

Every single football club in England has a chunk of their fanbase who will vote Reform at the next election. That's just a reflection of poll data. The hand-wringing and judging from fans of other clubs would be hilarious if it wasn't so serious to them.

Poll: Are you renewing your season ticket?
