Were the Cobbolds left wing all inclusive owners in their day?
My guess, probably ignorant, is that as land owners etc etc they were probably conservative right wingers.
Those were the days, do the supporters cringe at our past?

I don't know anything about their politics, which is a good thing.

Their political leanings, as far as I'm aware, were kept completely separate from the club. Unless someone has evidence of them wining and dining John Tyndall back in the day.

They weren't fans of Mrs T. But that was because she wanted to get shot of the aristocracy.
Lady Cobbold's reaction to being asked if she wanted to meet Margaret Thatcher: “I’d rather have a gin and tonic”

I love ITFC, but a large number of the fans are bellends

The Cobbolds had class.

Ashton doesn't have any.

In the 80s when most top division footballers were British, it was thought that the vast majority were Tory but it was never a problem because they kept their politics to themselves.

The Cobbolds were related to Harold Macmillan who if he were still around would be considered very left wing.

John Cobbold unsuccessfully contested three elections as a Conservative candidate in Ipswich.

And was comfortably our most successful Chairman, and a total gentlemen. He was revered by all, including the players.
