When watching Ashtons apology 10:35 - Mar 28 with 517 viewsCheltenham_Blue

Did anyone’s mind immediately snap back to Marcus Evans’ interview with his carefully scripted questions and answers?

The only reason not to respond to some of the accusations, especially in the Athletic is if there is legal action in progress, either against The Athletic or against Reform. I guess we’ll find out, but I don’t think Ashton will be able to not talk about it again.

If that was the case, I think MA would have said something like "I can't say any more at this stage because it's the subject of legal action". I suspect he didn't amplify because the mistruths (if there are any) don't make any material difference to the general tenor that the club misled us as to the degree of their involvement in Reform's visit.

I suspect MA won't mention it again and he'll try to sweep it under the carpet if it is raised again.

Good comparison. Evans was similarly unrepentant especially over being 'forced' to part ways with Mick.

I was also reminded of this

I could barely tell if Ashton’s apology was scripted. Looked more like he was winging it. Certainly not a CEO or Chairman level response.

I think he’s done his own brand a lot of harm. Probably would have been better to say nothing.

No, one is a total loser, the other is one of the most sucessful leaders this club has ever had at the helm. No similiaries.

If there is legal action, then why would they not announce it? Would come out at some point anyway and hearing of it would placate some of the fans (by seriously challenging the truth of the Atlantic's story).

The use of that word "mistruths" suggests to me something considerably short of litigation. Not using strong terminology which could itself face legal action.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Could be considering legal action/consulting lawyers. Wouldn’t necessarily be wise to announce that.

I think calling Evans one of the most successful leaders is stretching things a bit mate.

At the real risk of belittling the past days events - Ashton’s apology reminded me of someone doing something stupid and then making it a lot worse for themselves. A bit like the chap on this video.
