No, it looks like it's got some backspin on it which could well make it float and climb a little like that. Had it hit his head it would have had topspin on it. I think he releases it by snapping his hand through underneath it to give it that backspin and float.
Sounds like a load of old ballocks, what I've written, but I'm sticking with it.

Pretty shocking defending - about 5 players looking after Taylor and Greaves and then Hirst vaguely marked at the back post. Think they had 13 corners to our 1 and despite not helping the nerves the actually didn’t manage to create any clear cut chances or even slight panic from them.

The more corners they had the less nervous it became. O'Shea and Greaves were outstanding.
