Out of Contract in the Summer 15:20 - Apr 13 with 3619 viewsBlacknGoldnBlue

According to transfermarket the players below contracts expire this summer - who will be re-signed?

Personally, I think we'll only sign Kipre! I think the club will move Cajuste and Akpom straight on.
I don't think we'll sign Dan Neil (he'll go to a top championship club).
Unfortunately Azon hasn't shown enough. Townsend will be let go along with Button and Young.
Think Burns will also be let go (and that will be hard to take).

Jens Cajuste Obligation to buy with conditions
Dan Neil
Chuba Akpom Obligation to buy with conditions
Iván Azón
Cédric Kipré Option to buy
Wes Burns
Conor Townsend
Ashley Young
 David Button

I see Hirst being sold to a Championship club, buy in 2 strikers - one first choice with experience, one "for the future" and we keep Azón.

Iván is only just 23, has shown good development already and with a full summer of additional coaching I think he has a part to play next year.

A new first choice 'keeper is a must. Otherwise broadly agree. 7-9 coming in.

At the weekend, I was hoping that pass from Nunez would miss Azon and end up with Clarke because I felt sure Clarke would bury it and confident Azon would miss - and so he did. That was a sort of epiphany for me on Azon's level. I would definitely be moving him on - probably even if we aren't promoted.

I agree with all of that.

If we go up we need to be ruthless, Azon in the PL would be a disaster, Hirst ok as a back up but wouldn't be surprised if he was sold.

The rest will all go, obviously very sad to see Burns depart but at 31, 32 this year coming back from a nasty injury he should be looking for a final pay day and good luck to him.

Cajuste just doesn't look robust enough for the English game and he is way down the pecking order currently.

If we go up, we're in a far better place to try and navigate next season with experience and knowledge.

Hopefully we can get out of the Akpom and Cajuste deals, they just haven't done it this season.
Cajuste has looked good at times but I've seen him ask to come off at times this season, I think his knee has caused him more issues than we're aware of.

I'd like Townsend to stay as cover but we don't know how he'll be.

And Burns as much as we all love him, he didn't do it in the PL last time and that's before a serious injury and getting into his 30's so I think he'll have to leave.

I think people are forgetting just how ruthless we'll need to be this summer if we do go up.

We've probably got 3 nailed on starters for next season, Davis, DOS and Matusiwa. Even then, Davis and DOS weren't great last time we went up and Matusiwa is unproven. You can probably argue LW is sorted as Clarke and Philogene will rotate. Those are the only players I can't see us actively replacing.

Which means we'll be looking for a starting GK, RB, CB, CM, RW, CAM and ST. Which is a hell of a lot.

We simply won't be able accommodate many of the players in and around our squad at the moment. Out of the following (including current loans): Walton, Palmer, H Clarke, Johnson, Furlong, Young, Greaves, Baggott, Townsend, Cajuste, Nunez, Taylor, Burns, McAteer, Egeli, Mehmeti, Humphreys, Ogbene, Chaplin, Akpom, Al-Hamadi, Hirst, Azon - I wouldn't be surprised if we'd consider offers for any of them, either buy or loans, or be looking to not sign up the players currently on loan. Some will likely be squad players (Greaves, Nunez, Mehmeti, Hirst, Furlong, Walton) but no more than that.

We'll be saying goodbye for a fair few players this summer if we get promoted.

Most of these players won't be good enough. They're nearly all good Championship players. Dan Neil is just the same. A regular in their promotion team, but they realised he wasn't good enough for the PL. If we are to have any chance of survival, we need to gamble on young players like Delap & players from overseas leagues.

Bringing in 8 new players would give us a chance of staying up and of these players they would need to be premier league ready, big units and can run for 90 mins.

We don't have enough PL quality in the squad to be using subs on 70 mins every game IMO so the first team need to be able to complete games and impact games.

O Shea
Davies
Azor

They will likely be the other players making the first team who are all fit and can play a full game every week without getting subbed.

Unless of course we are to buy 13 new players, 5 of which are solid game changing subs then that would be interesting.

How much do we have in the transfer kitty for summer transfer realistically?

I’d agree with all that bar Cajuste.

His class shows in the Prem.

No Cajuste was part of a side that went down without a fight was it one goal all season and can't play ninety minutes no time to be sentimental have to be ruthless to survive I only believe 7 or 8 max in this squad will be retained. Thats if we go up of course.

Agreed. he seems to be better when he doesn't have to think about it. Azon is barely good enough for us in the league, let alone the premier league. Yes he's 23, but I just can't see him improving with us as a 3rd/4th striker playing bits of games. He'd be better off going somewhere he will play regularly.
