Spot on. The recruitment 2 seasons in a row has been pretty shocking.

There are lots of reasons performances have been pretty underwhelming this season and for me its the right hand side. Wes Burns has been pretty good when he has played but obviously had injuries. Ben Johnson good vs Nodge and I would like to be seeing him more in away games in that role.

But for large parts of the season the right hand side has been so ineffective with Furlong/Mcateer and Furlong/Egeli. I'm not blaming either player for their price tag and both of them are trying. But 30+ million on those 2 players who look a million miles off the standard is absolutely shocking business and one of the reasons promotion to the prem as much as I want it scares me so much because I have 0 faith in Ashton and his team in the transfer market.

Kipre hasn't met expectations?

There are questions about our recruitment but, despite his performance last night, Kipre has clearly been good enough.

Were our expectations not higher than a bang average Championship player? I can't remember the last time he had a really dominant game.

Yeah, that one is a pretty wild take. Kipre was brought in mainly to be cover and he's played more often than not and in most games he's played well. A heavy dose of recency bias going on after a poor showing from him last night.

Kipre’s done well to be fair. He was poor last night and looked sluggish, but on balance he’s had a very good season.

He is also one of the very very few player who fits the change of recruitment style that Ashton banged on about. Physical and athletic players. He didn't look like it tonight but in the most part he has been fine.

Not sure where the rest of those physical players are. Azor I suppose. Not quite the new brand of signings that Ashton said he was looking for.

Nunez has been alright but I don’t think has met expectations - where was he last night ?

Azor - best signing but has had a few off games when we needed him to deliver on what he’s good at (Oxford away , last night of course )

Furlong - actually may be the best signing of all , consistent , grit ,

Mehmetti - yes good , just needs more time , I’d have started him last night , Portsmouth is a Mehmetti type of game

Sindre - poor , potential but really hasn’t lived up to it so far

McAteer - decent I think … good energy , bad start of course but has improved , great against Birmingham

Cajuste - no

Ashley Young - no

Chuba - no

Kipre - good first half of season. , should now just be back up to O’Shea / Greaves , shouldn’t have started last night

Azon - no , nice guy , got talent but you’ll struggle to fight a lease threatening striker

Neil - alright I think , just yeah he’s there not good or bad

Button - not seen him

Mcateer has not been a decent signing. By almost every metric he has been a poor signing.

The trouble we also have is Ashton has overseen all these wasteful signings, and he’s got no one to answer to.
KM also has to take responsibility, the continual changes every game can’t help players. Yes there’s the argument to keep the squad fresh, but it’s not exactly helped this season has it? We win a couple of games, next game is 4,5 or 6 changes and then we put in performances like last night, on top of Wrexham home, away and FA cup, away games at Stoke, Sheff U, Leicester, Oxford and Preston.

Azor Matusiwa - Great
Marcelino Núñez - Good, dropped off recently
Darnell Furlong - Solid
Anis Mehmeti - Jury is out. 'Good on the ball does fvck all' for me at the moment
Sindre Walle Egeli - Should have cost about £3m. Huge overpay.
Kasey McAteer - Not good enough. Tries to be fair to him.
Jens Cajuste - A shadow of the player las season, but a logical signing at the time.
Ashley Young - Pointless
Chuba Akpom - Maybe the only positive of not going up is not having to sign him? Rank
Cédric Kipré - Been good on the whole.
Iván Azón - Not good enough. Neat and tidy, but a serial goal avoider.
Dan Neil - Really poor. Nothing player
David Button - Player of the season?

"A few off games" - Azor.

2 in a season, my god your standards are high. Not sure Ipswich is the team for you.

The expectations of the new era are absolutely ludicrous

Said he was a good , perhaps the best signing , just commenting that in those games when up against it he was off
