The RUN-IN - Town & Rivals - REFRESHED - Saints now in the mix! 18:51 - Apr 15 with 1635 viewsunstableblue

After the glory of Carrot Road on Saturday on the last run-in post I wrote - "A win Tuesday and we’ll be well ahead of schedule."

But this is Town in the 25/26 season! and its all about steps forward and steps back. We also of course met Pompey as they decided to put in there strongest performance across their managers reign!

And our loss was met by another Saints win - so they are added in now, and just look at their recent form!!

Sunday at 12 (sighs) now huge - a win and all is forgotten. Big display required now - fans and players - to take momentum to the Valley.

I'm taking some solace from Saints FA cup distraction at 17:15 the Saturday before our game on the Tuesday at their place! and our goal difference.

We'd have all taken this position after August.
In our hands. Do it the Ipswich way.

They also think Hackney won’t be fit.

“I still haven't let myself start to dream again.

That Millwall result knocked the sh*t out of me...and then the Pompey goal, I just laughed in my seat when it went in.

Last night clearly helped us...but I still don't have any trust in these players to somehow win 4 games in a row to give ourselves that small chance we may have.

I might feel differently, if we beat Ipswich on Sunday, when I'm travelling back from the game and if we are joint 2nd.....but even then, I'm not sure if I would start to believe.

The most frustrating part of all this, is the fact Ipswich have looked absolutely bang average on the many occasions I've watched them this season...and we're allowing them to just fall over the line, due to our own failings.

If Ipswich were on a mad one, and finished 2nd from consistently outplaying teams with ease, scoring bucket load of goals, and blowing the opponents away, then it would be more accepted...but they aren't. They're getting lucky breaks from officials and look quite average on the most.....we've just managed to lay the red carpet out for them and kept throwing them lifeline after lifeline.”

Teacider24
“ I'm going to force myself to believe, because the anger and frustration I've felt about Boro in the last 2 months has been deeply unhealthy, though it's surely definitely done if we don't win on Sunday.

Even if we beat them but still fall short because of our many prior slip-ups, it'd be nice just to go in to the play-offs with any sort of form.”

Ricoh’s Braves
“We're underdogs Sunday, Ipswich are expected to win, due to our recent form (or our missing chances), but this club has an habit of ripping the script up, and it wouldn't surprise me.“

Smogsterking
“I suppose if we beat Ipswich we are probably back in a position most probably anticipated after this week of games albeit expecting us and Ipswich to beat Pompey and Ipswich to lose to Norwich. I have little faith in getting 4 wins which I feel we will need but a win against Ipswich and the 3 fixtures left will look more winnable given it essentially rules out Wrexham from the playoffs.“

MV - I agree it’s still a great position, especially where you look at Leicester!

But like many I’d hoped that we’d finally turned a corner, and would now go on a proper imperious run prior to promotion into a difficult league.

But as you say we’ll certainly be doing it the Ipswich Town 25/26 way!!

What has a club in a financial mess going into the season with a points deduction got to do with anything?

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

A well mannered and good footy forum.

S-Clarke
"That was absolutely superb, I can't remember such a one-sided first half before. Blackburn struggled to get out at all, luckily we capitalised as I always thought they'd get better.
If someone told me I'd be feeling like I am now, back in November, I'd tell them they're off their rocker. It feels like one extreme to the other, it's hard to really compute how we've improved over this period of time. I'd given up on playoffs, distant memory, but to be sat here with Playoffs being all but confirmed and automatics back on the horizon is a pure mind bend, it has to be said."

Luckynumber7
"Have to pinch myself looking at the table! Second is still an outside bet but it's possible.
Larin was brilliant tonight, and big shout out to Archer too. Pleased for him."

Crab Lungs
"Tonda. 64 points in 29 games. 2.2 points per game.
And we had a literal phantom in goal for half a season, and a complete neek fraud mismanaging us for quarter of it.
It’s on, gents."

Willo of Whitely
"Blackburn tonight were one of the worst teams I’ve seen play live in twenty plus years of going.
That said it was nice that we didn’t have to break a sweat and had the options to change things.
Ringing the charges again and then even taking off the likes of Bree at HT for Wood, who made some fantastically timed tackles.
Larin is excellent, whether we’re in this league or not next season he is an absolute unit that we should 100% be considering permanently should finances be there.
Another routine and professional win, draw a line, move on, plan, prepare and go again.

Second is there for us!"

KWSaint - "I never thought second was on..."
Football Special - "Its still highly improbable, we need to win every game and Ipswich need to lose two, plus that goal difference helps them. Millwall to overtake as well"

SaintBobby - "If we win our last 4, we need Ipswich to lose one other game. If Millwall win their last four, we can’t catch them whatever we do. If Boro win their last four, it comes down to GD against them."
Patrick Bateman - "Form table fellas, form table"

Bender
"If Ipswich draw against Boro on Saturday and then fail to win both of their next 2 games which are away (or if they lose to Boro and still win those 2 games), we can catch them in our penultimate game with them at SMS. There's a chance we're both on the same points and very similar goal difference going into the last game. All irrelevant though if Millwall win all 4 of their games and they have an easy run in. It could literally be 1 out of 4 going into the last game."

I like how they're describing us as bang average and relying on dodgy ref decisions (we've had plenty of those go against us, costing us points) when almost every metric has us performing better than them. Deluded much?

Yes there definitely seems to be a culture to these message boards, and Millwall definitely living up to their reputation

As per comments on the Millwall and Sainst forum and referencing the Pompey manager comments… saints got an on the beach Blackburn and we got a relegation scrapping Pompey

West Brom may still be a test.

QPR hopefully not. Need ego be in our own hands though.

Boro Charlton WBA Saints is a hellish run though. 3 of them away.

If Charlton win at Wednesday at the weekend then they are pretty much safe you'd have to think so that potentially becomes an easier game. West Brom have a couple of potentially winnable games before the play us too so they could we'll be safe or close to it, though depends on their points deduction I guess. Teams with nothing to play for aren't always pushovers either, Brum came and treated their game with us as a free hit and gave us some problems.

Key observation there Herbie.

Oxford play Derby Saturday and I’d expect them to lose that, if Charlton beat Sheff Weds as expected then they’re safe and pressure off for Weds against us.

As you say I expect West Brom may have also secured Championship place by the time I get to them.

I reckon people would think it's not a very user friendly site 😂 but that on the whole TWTD is fairly level headed and generally decent, supportive and reasonable fans, just like how Ipswich Town fans are generally viewed amongst the football community - proper team, proper fans.

One thing I do find weird about this board and continue to, is the posters who are blindly optimistic about Ipswich to a fault and refuse to hear anything negative about the club. And almost take it personally when anyone has anything negative to say even when warranted. Other discussion boards (ok referring to Leicester here but I think it's common) go the other way where relentless over the top pessimism is the norm, but here it's almost the other way where the biggest problem is the group of posters who attack anyone not drinking the Cool aid.

Probably better to have it this way than a bunch of doom mongers though, tbh.

Ps Jack Clarke as Mackenzie Crook made me laugh - good shout!

Yeh fair point.

Although a trip to the Valley vs a Nathan Jones team just never sounds fun. Last 2 trips to the valley was that horrible night under McGreal and the 4-4 draw. Hopefully better next week.
