Corners 17:01 - Apr 19 with 447 viewsbritbiker

Is it just me. I fail to get excited about any of our corners, as they come to nothing. Whereas I'm terrified that we will concede from every corner we concede.

Been a long time since our backs would chip in with six or seven headed goals each. Good old days of Tommy Smith , D"Vos etc.

I feel fairly confident about us defending corners but I’ve got no idea why we don’t attack balls into the opposition box anymore. Our entire routine seems to involve putting the ball on O’Shea’s head at the back post and hoping that a) he can get contact, b) he can direct the ball back into the box and c) someone else can make contact with it. We do the same thing over and over again with very little success. I’m sure there’s some data driven tactic because most teams do this now but I just can’t see how it’s better than having a few players running from the edge of the box and meeting the ball at pace, it absolutely baffles me

Strangely, the delivery is actually fine. It's the absolute lack of movement in the box that means nobody is attacking the ball from a proper running jump. On one occasion today, their keeper caught a vicious in swinger right underneath the crossbar and not one Town player was within 2 yards of him to put in a challenge. . I like O'Shea, he's been very good this season (Wrexham away aside) but he goes forward for every set piece and has one Town goal in 2 seasons. Sheer volume of corners has seen us get a few goals this season from corners but I agree with you, there is no sense of anticipation that we'll get a good chance when we get one.

Asked this before, but can anyone remember the last time we scored a league goal from a corner in front of the North Stand?

Steve_M mentioned rightly That Greaves scored one in the cup against Blackpool but struggling to remember the last one in the league.

Also like to add if we cannot score from a corner in the Championship, my we are going to struggle in the Premiership

Agreed. I wonder if part of it is that our opponents usually have more height in their side than we do.

We stopped doing that pre norwich.

Ive wondered why weve stopped it tbh as it was causing some defenders issues.
