At the beginning of last season, I didnt even think he would still be here, yet he stayed, fought for his place and played in the Prem for us. At the beginning of this season, I can honestly say I never thought he would be a mainstay for us.

I'm delighted he has proven me wrong. I thought he was excellent again last night. Proper work rate, strong in the tackle (lovely bit of gamesmanship) and tidy enough to keep the ball moving.

Its a proper old cliche but you can tell he loves playing for this club, wears the badge with pride and has earned the respect of the fans. The Super Jack chant was loud and clear when he went off last night.

Bloody number 9. Azon works hard but I'm sick of how easily he goes to ground, surely after nearly a year he's realised it wont wash with most refs at this level. He's also nowhere near clinical enough, to not at least work the keeper with that chance at 1-0 yesterday is so wasteful and its not the first time this season. Hirst is similar, his movement is generally good and he occupies defenders well enough, but his finishing has left a lot to be desired this season.

We seem to have lived in this state of constantly being short in that area. Even last season with Delap we were still left starting Szmodics up there against Newcastle and bringing Al-Hamadi off the bench. For all of our recruitment its muddled to stack us with forward players but still have Al Al-Hamadi making 11 premier league appearances.

We need to get that right in the summer, regardless of what division we're in.

Bring back Delap on loan and premier league experienced cover, a Callum Wilson, or similar.

Yep. Another big chance missed for him last night. It is frustrating as he is fantastic in the air, shows glimpses of nice link up play and his off the ball movement very good. Ultimately, strikers need to put chances away and I just don't fancy he will when in prime positions too. The play acting stuff is probably a lack of maturity which I am sure would be coached out of him. (Must add that Nunez should also have put his chance away but missing key chances and not putting teams to bed has been a bit of habbit for us this season)

Hirst....I don't really know what to say. A couple of goals recently has helped but still looks shot of confidence. He can't seem to make the ball stick as well as he used to, should have shot when he got around the edge of the box yesterday and then the attempt to take the ball into the corner when we were trying to protect the game wasn't overly inspiring.

Should we go up, you can't help but feel that we will be doing big numbers in terms of players coming in again. At least 12+ needed I reckon.

You need players who can run. A lot.

So no thanks to Callum Wilson.

I get what you’re saying, but in the premier league, where chances are less frequent than in the championship, I’d argue that a clinical finisher trumps maybe not being the best at the George Hirst style-off-the-ball-work!

Problem is those teams at the bottom don't create loads of chances so need players who are very good out of possession.

If it was to be an experienced striker. Chris Wood would be my choice.

Wood, would be a fabulous back up, indeed.
I was plucking Wilson from thin air as a model of the experience needed who may he potentially available tbf, not putting him forward as the ideal candidate.

Did Mass and Morsy provide us with that much creativity?

Do we need it? Win midfield battles, provide energy, intercept moves, control the ball and pass it quickly to the more creative players. Why overthink it?

We need it going forwards, but as you imply, what they have will get us promoted.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!
