BBC News - No 10 say Falkland sovereignty rests with UK after report of US 'review'
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/art

If they're suggesting things like that, perhaps we need to review Lakenheath and Mildenhall.

I'd love you to explain how that works to me. I doubt you'll be able to string anything coherent together, though.

I mean, if you ignore all the Putin licking that Trumpy-wumpy does, there's no evidence that he's Putin's bitch.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Israel runs Syria! The Russians betrayed the Syrians to let the Israeli-sponsored Al Qaida run government in. FFS, they're actually open about it.

Russia had 10’s thousands of troops stationed in Syria, and conducted thousands of airstrikes in support of Assad. They still have bases in the country but diverted most of their military assets to support their invasion of Ukraine.

Why would a country with a population of about 40% of the US want to increase its internal threat of attack by taking over populations of countries which hate it.? They did it once before with dramatic failure.

Oh yes, it's because Putin's crazy.

When Putin goes... he's pretty old, we'll discover what hardline crazy Russian politics looks like.

Didn’t stop them re-occupying Chechnya, and they still have Islamist attacks as a result. Same with their occupation of Eastern Europe in the Cold War, they simply purged any dissent.

Well done, that completely explains a)Russia's support of Iran against the US, b) Russia's ending of their support for Syria after the joint US, Israeli and Turkish removal of Assad and the installation of Jolani and c)the US's ongoing arming of Zelenski in Ukraine.

You're making the mistake of listening to Trump rather than actually following what he does.

Yes, they supported Syria at the behest of Assad in 2015, not before. One of the conditions of Russia leaving Syria was that they were allowed to keep their two bases there .

Russia didn't relocate their weapons because they needed them in Ukraine, they moved them to prevent them being acquired by US-sponsored al Qaida. This is why the Syrians say they were betrayed by the Russians.

Don't tell me you think Trump is working for Putin too.

Russia has its zone of influence in the Caucasus in the same despicable way that the US dominates Central America. That's how regional powers work unfortunately. You know this.

What are the odds then of then of the ships moving their assets from Ports in Syria to Russian near Ukraine by Marine tracking aggregators back in 2023. Just a coincidence I’m sure, why leave valuable equipment on a different continent when they’ve lost over 100k troops to gain an area smaller than Iceland. They even had Syrian mercenaries fighting for them in Ukraine.

Military occupation of Chechnya and Georgia = “zone of influence” cafe_newman

Military occupation of Ukraine = “Special military operation” Putin

We were talking about December 2025, now you're bringing up something different from 2023.

Re mercenaries. There are mercenaries of all nations fighting for all sides all over the world. Saying that these ones were "Syrian" is as informative as saying they were Lebanese. It's pretty irrelevant, mercenaries are not famed for their values, they are ... mercenary.

There's not much point carrying on with this really. We both know our stuff fairly well from our chosen perspective and neither of us are gonna budge on what we believe to be right.

We could carry on "Blue Badger style" with 6th form level sarcastic sniping, but it just brings the level of the forum down and eats into our weekends.

Rightly or wrongly we see things pretty differently. Fair enough?

Trump isn't working for Putin, but he makes for a very useful idiot in the White House. The reason why Russia is treading a fine line when it comes to Iran is because America's obstinance over Ukraine works in their favour and Trump, when angered, can turn on a whim.

I don't buy the Trump being a useful idiot line - as tempting as it is.

US presidents get assassinated when they go off script with the CIA/Deep State/Epstein handlers, call it what you like. The fact that he hasn't been taken out suggests that he's doing just fine as far as they're concerned.
