I can't begin to talk about how depressing I found this.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Deeply depressing.

Ashton esque one might say.

The thing is they can't see that they are destroying the very things that make the game so commercially attractive and powerful. Identity, jeopardy, social/cultural fabric, etc.

Saw a good piece today from a United supporter saying that for the first time prices and shenanigans with season tickets mean there won't be a new generation of local reds going to games every week together and how that is a disaster for the identity of the club and support.

Game has been stolen.

The really sad thing is that it seems to be FIFA, of all people, who are trying to restrict potential damage and financial exploitation. It’s the clubs who want this for the ticket revenue in places where £200+ a game is considered par for the course, while their own fans can swivel as far as the clubs care.

I agree with all of this, except that sadly in the States their sports are very commercially attractive (i.e. they actually make a profit) despite being full of plastic bowls and plastic teams moving from city to city whenever they fancy. I fear that football will make money eventually, once it has been fully Europeanised or globalised and promotion and relegation are gone.

It's a horrible direction of travel, that's for sure.

I'd like to to think that the backlash would be too great for clubs here to risk it, a bit like the Super League stuff a few years back. For now at least....

We need our new football regulator to say NO to any English league matches being played abroad.

We need fans of all clubs to declare that if their clubs plays a match abroad they will walk away on mass and also cancel their football TV subscriptions. Enough is enough!

Will (home) season ticket holders be required to travel to the games or will they get a refund?

It should be a warning to us all (as are most things that come out of the USA). I tried to get tickets to the Patriots when we were out there and it would have been over $2,000 for a family of four. Granted I’d left it late, but still.

I’m very often wrong but I was in favour of the Super League but on the proviso that those clubs would be not be in the PL at all. And if players sign a new contract with a Super League club then they wouldn’t be eligible for England.

They did that in the 70s and 80s - one of the reasons why football was in its arse allowing SKY to dictate terms etc.
