In a one off game, I think Millwall could give them a game if they get past Hull.
Southampton would probably be best equipped to compete in the premier league next season, considering their cup run, so I’m guessing that’s the least desirable outcome for us. |  | | |  |

Southampton will be favourites, but anything can happen in the play-offs. I hope Hull go up as the weakest team, leaving Southampton in the league with Norwich.
The race for the top 6 yesterday was exciting, but under the new top 8 play off rules there would have been no race with 9th placed Norwich not having enough points to make the top 8. Also, with a quarter of the league going into the play-offs qualifying for them will not mean as much after this season. [Post edited 3 May 9:53]

In fact the only play-off team with an aggregate win over them across the main season was Boro (who, apart from against Watford and SheffW, have been very off the boil since February). |  |

I've never loved Millwall or their fans but I think they deserve it. Modest budget, played to their strengths, a little flair in Azeez, supportive fans, finished 3rd, and disproved the "they'll fall away" brigade just as we did in 2023/24.
And besides, Southampton would probably be more of a danger to us in the Prem because of resources.
I'd like to see them up. Or Hull, for the bantz.

Alex Neil is quite underrated as a manager at Champ/L1 level, with two promotions under his belt already, plus one to the Scottish Prem, in addition to some other good finishes.

From the perspective of fairest distribution of football around England from a geographical viewpoint then Hull are my preferred winners (Millwall would just replace Spurs or WHam as one of too many London teams, 'Boro would only add to the North East also rans of Newcastle and Sunderland, Southampton to the similar South Coast Brighton and Bournemouth axis.) But from a footballing perspective I guess I favour Southampton due to the recovery from a poor management appointment. |  |
