| I actually think it's a positive Reform are winning councils on 10:58 - May 9 with 702 views | Pinewoodblue | My ‘new’ County Councillor represents Reform although he was elected five years ago as a Conservative, he doesn’t live in the ward, he doesn’t even live within the boundary of the new unitary authority that takes over in 2028. But he does live in Suffolk. It isn’t how I believe local government should be. | |

That is true but it does mean he will have some experience, as may well be the case with some others.

I am not aware that they went down that route but I think those in a council in the Midlands boycotted the local paper but had to back-track. Indeed, Kent was probably their first flagship, and I think they wanted to milk it for all it was worth. It is interesting though that Farage has refused to discuss the £5 million. For what it is worth, I've never seen his personal appeal, and he does strike me as the sort of person that turns rather prickly when questioned : an interview with Beth Rigby a a few months ago springs to mind. As Billy Bragg might have said of him he's "the sort that laughs at his own jokes." [Post edited 9 May 14:15]

Agree 100%, never comes over as someone you could trust. Just a personal opinion of course.

Edit: Bluesky link not working, no idea why. [Post edited 9 May 21:07]

| I actually think it's a positive Reform are winning councils on 10:29 - May 9 by Radlett_blue | While comparing Reform with the BNP or Nazis is unhelpful, they have built their support partly on the undercurrents of casual racism that abound among many of the working & lower classes in Britain. Many of their supporters are similar to the Trump voters in the US - the lot of the working class in both Britain & America has worsened over the last 20 years, largely as traditional industries have declined & right wing politicians have given them an easy target to blame. |
Is it really unhelpful? When they are proposing detention centres to house 10s of thousands of people who currently have indefinite leave to remain, don't you think it is negligent to not point out the obvious similarities? EDIT: Unless, of course, their figures are simply a bare-faced lie designed to scaremonger and appeal to the fears of those who support them. [Post edited 9 May 21:11]

Every vote not cast is one fewer vote that an extremist party like Reform or Restore or Your Party needs to win the contest. (Unless, of course, said vote is cast for an extremist party.)
