That thread wasn't worth posting anything sensible on. Far better for it to die the death of being ignored that it deserved after the initial debunking of the "evidence" posted.

Burns never cuts in to score? Far better for wingers to cross the ball in for our strikers than for them to cut inside and score? Odd take.

Burns hardly ever cuts in on his left foot! Show me a goal where Burns scores with his left foot?

What's the most iconic goal Burns has scored for Town? EDIT: Not sure what difference it makes which foot either. Cutting inside and scoring (or drilling it past the keeper from an angle) is not crossing the ball. [Post edited 9 May 20:31]

With his right foot? You’re missing the whole point Wingers don’t cross the ball anymore, that’s why our strikers struggle

Nothing to do with not taking the chances presented to them then? What was their data on percentage of big chances scored? I think you will find the data suggests we do cross the ball into the box too. Maybe not aerial crosses especially but that would probably be due to the strikers not being especially good at heading from crosses.

That’s totally another discussion I know Clarke and Billyjean scored a lot of goals, but how many goals did they make? Not many I like old fashioned wingers, Burns definitely falls in that category

| Doku scoring another similar goal today ... on 22:20 - May 9 with 695 views | John_Warks_Willy | Had a long day on the beers with a couple of Villa fans yesterday. Chat got onto Philogene at some point. They are adamant he is not good enough for the Prem, and how difficult they think he found just not having the time on the ball he needs to work his magic like he gets in the Championship. Of course, I told them very clearly they are wrong and to get another round in as penalty for such blasphemy. | |

Well, I read something interesting on the BBC sports site about 3 months or so ago. Two very well known ex players ( one Alan Shearer ) having a discussion about the dirth of " old fashioned " centre forwards these days. Both were generally in agreement that one of the major reasons for it is, probably the major reason, todays youngsters want to be involved a lot in a game. They see the old fashioned centre forward as spending a lot of time up front alone and not seeing the ball for ages. Apparently they all want to be the next wingman who cuts inside, as per the modern day game, that gets plenty of action. Personally if I was a manager ( lucky I'm not for all concerned! ), I'd want wide players that can do both. That is cut in and also skin a defender on the outside to put crosses in. Best of both worlds and a rebirth of the " proper " striker.

They are chalk and cheese, only real comparison is they play wide left. Doku has a physical presence, is powerfully built, and really pacey, and he's done what he's done at top PL level and international level. JP is non of those things. Not having a pop at Jaden, just pointing out the difference!

He seemed to work well with Delap, although I can't really recall how many times they combined for a "proper old school striker's" goal.

I've just read this from BBC reporting of the National League play-off: "The turn of pace from Ayinde just left defenders in his wake." - He's one of our own!
