Now they’ve got through that tie I quite fancy them to do something ridiculous. They’ve beat both of the other Semi finalist, albeit, they didn’t get a spring version of Southampton. Clearly a manager that has a lot for tactical ability and a hard side to break down. Would love a 20% possession game 1-0 Tigers win at Wembley.

Need to be cheering for this. Going up with Cov and a team that’s been under a transfer embargo would give us a real chance if any other teams falter. We’ve got serious work to do but imagine building out that entire Hull squad.

Anyone but Southampton would be a good outcome for us. If the Saints stay down, there’s a couple to keep an eye on in that team as well as I wouldn’t see them as your typical Championship side, they have a more ready PL squad than us at the moment.

It would be great from a selfish perspective, but they're streets behind Saints and Boro, and should be cut to ribbons on the wide plains of Wembley. 'Should be'.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

Boro have a great habit of dominating teams and not scoring.

I actually think Boro are a better team than Southampton though I understand that they have the infrastructure and squad to be a better premier league team next season.

To me Boro under Hellberg have played the best football this season out of any team they just have an incredible habit of missing multiple big chances every game. See the first leg. They really are good to watch and have done it for a while without their best player.

If the worst was to happen this off season and McKenna went (don’t think he will and hope he doesn’t) Hellberg should absolutely be the number 1 choice in my opinion.

To your overall point though, in a one off game I do think Hill can beat both they have the right sort of style for it.

Hull boss should get Manager of the Year. Almost relegated last season, transfer embargo and now one game away from promotion.

And yes, fingers crossed they go up, would massively help us if it’s not saints who go up.

If Hull do go up, that's going to be a horrible Championship to get out of next season. A lot of potentially big spenders:

West Ham or Spurs
Burnley
Wolves
Southampton
Boro
Wrexham
Birmingham
Norwich???

Then teams like Millwall and Derby punching above their weight + a surprise package or two.

In a final all bets are off, they're capable of beating either IMO. Probably not favourites, but capable. They've travelled really well this season too.

The other benefit of going up with Hull rather than Saints (as well as potential competitiveness next season) is we'll probably be after all the same players as Saints if they go up, whereas we could probably out spend Hull.

Would they still be under the embargo in the PL? Isn't the embargo EFL enforced?

Obviously, regardless they would be under much more financial constraint than us, so would be the best of the bunch to go up with.

Yes this is what really added to my stress at end of the season. Think god now we can reset in the PL properly.

Would be pleased to see Hull go up. They deserve their moment.
Plus is it being selfish that the more teams likely to finish below us the better ?

Hellberg's an interesting one. On the one hand they've looked very good on their day, probably the best side in the division when they're on it. On the other they're very inconsistent and their inability to win so many of those games you really would've expected them to is a concern. Its not a 1 off either, there's a big enough sample size of them now for it to be something of a trend. He joined at a good time taking over from Edwards and only managed 6th placed form since.

I think you're right on balance, the eyeball test says he's got something about him, but I don't think he's got exceptional results this season baring in mind the hand he was dealt.

I think he’s good they’re just so lackluster in the opposition box and been without their two best players since March. If you replayed the second half of the season 10 times I’d imagine they’d finish 2nd in quite a few of those. I’ll never forget the sitter their striker missed at 1-0 against Bristol city. Somehow passes it at the keeper with the goal gaping, that’s not really on the manager some of that.

If both Wall and Boro stay down they will forever look back on this season.

Oh well

It’s true that post them getting to 2nd they really should have kicked on a held that spot given they run they had but watching some of their games was genuinely unbelievable. I thought our strikers lacked potency this season, the Boro players seemed to be having a competition of who could miss the best chance.

Just looking at a 5 game run they had XGs of 2.30 2.72 2.98 1.22 2.69. They won 0 of those games. Great news obviously as it left the door open for us but from a neutral stance not sure what more Hellberg really could’ve done in those games. Tommy Conway is often the guilty part although I do think he’s got a bit about him.

Same applies to McKenna at times as well this season where we’ve dominated the game created plenty of clear cut chances and just that lack of a clinical goal scorer cost us points.i think it was the Watford game where Nunez and Azon missed 2 golden opportunities that sticks in my mind. That’s football I guess though.

Not wrong at all. You have to look at the fellow promoted teams as two of the three that we will need to finish below us as well as the best prospect of picking up 12 points. We only picked up two points against Southampton and Leicester last time.

Boro should have got 87-90 points, they had relegation form for 2 months. We were a bit lucky if we are being honest.

We fell well short last time but if you think of the below there’s room for optimism.

-Started against Liverpool and City
-No advanced scouting network in place
-League 1 players off the bench all year
-Drew games we should have won first half of season
-Tones of injuries
-2 points of fellow promoted sides
-Didn’t have time/personnel to adapt style of league

Hopefully in a lot better position to avoid much of the above!

Yeah I don't disagree with that, perhaps an element of bad luck and bad finishing, but it wasn't a 1 off, they averaged about 1 point a game for most of the final 1/4 of the season including games they really should've been winning. I have some sympathy for the manager but on the flip side its his job to find a solution, change things up. I don't accept luck over a period of 3 months tbh.

Its fine lines though, there's not a lot between Hellberg being heralded a hero and getting 2nd vs. someone like me being critical. I do think he's a good manager, they play some great football at times, I just think they've lacked a consistency and ability to get the job done from such a good position.

We put in a fair few decent performances last time just didn’t have the personnel to win a 90 minute match. Think KM got a lot of his game plans bang on. If we give him some prem players it could be pretty exciting.

They do, but they can get it right too and did for a lot of the season. Tonight would be a great time to remind people of what they were doing up until the wheels fell off.

Whoever wins this game will batter them, Millwall didn't ask enough questions and playing them suited Hull, but they won't have enough against a better footballing side
