Don't be sad it is just people talking sh!t This is not just toilets, it's not the extra tier yet but back of West is going to look very different. I would think planning is needed for some of it so news should be out very soon, guess they have just started prep work at risk of planning failing.

The foreground of this picture shows a worrying sight. (I went for the clean version)

The club is fitting safe standing in both the North and South stands. Through an optimisation of both the seating and the disabled areas, the club expects to create 500 more seats.

I could be wrong, but I think it's only SBR lower that's getting safe standing. Can't imagine the ST holders in SAR lower will be happy if they are forced stand for 90 mins.

Prepping for the away fans eventually being there when the cobbold is done? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Most clubs are moving away fans from behind the goal, as it gives the away team a slight advantage. I can't see ITFC being any different. Away fans will stay in the corner of the new stand where they are now IMO. Police will want this too as it's easy access to the station.

Long term I agree with you, but I more meant for the season(s) when the new cobbold is being built, they will have to go somewhere, and it isnt the lower north or family stand.

500 more? Blimey. I would imagine that if safe standing is going into the SAR it’ll only be the back rows and people will be given the option to move forwards or backwards within their section.

My friend who is about to start work there has been told both ends. Moving the away fans to the SAR lower has been a long term plan. I expect we are biting the bullet and moving people and re locating multiple disabled areas to achieve 500 more seats. Could be quite a bit of upheaval for season ticket holders. I expect the people in the Sir Bobby Robson suite will get seats in the upper tier. So there will be upper tier moves as well. Not sure if the lower SA holds 3k, but I expect there will be a few away non safe standing seats elsewhere in the ground to make the number up.

Ashton has stated that he wants to do it as the away fans will approach and queue away from areas where the home fans are. New turnstiles and stairs to the upper tier could easily give home fans access from Portman road.

Having away fans in the corner at Soton means the noise is focussed out better - so not all better.
