What's your point? The bit that is relevant is that he would in all likelihood be able to settle in quickly, feel at home and be in the best position to hit the ground running. |
If we’re going to cut to the chase.
He isn’t good enough and is a play off level midfielder nothing more.
Add into that, he’s a walking suspension, wanted out from us in the first place, then, (by his own admission) didn’t want back in when he had the chance and I think his attitude is a little suspect.
I’m starting to lose count of the number of times it has to be said that if our aims are to bring back former players that we ‘liked’ then we might as well just stay in the Championship. |  |

He didn’t feel at home last time. Couldn’t get away quick enough. He been approached to return previously and wasn’t interested. This club was just a starting point for his career, which is fair enough. But I think he’s made it perfectly clear he doesn’t want to come back here so why people hanker after him is beyond me.
No, he is not a talentless clogger. He is though quite limited and has a short fuse. He is also injury prone. I’ve not seen him too many times for Southampton recently, but when I have he’s been anonymous. Ok, he’s not a flashy player, but there’s nothing that particularly impresses and he’s not as good a player as I thought he might be when he first broke into our team all those years ago now.
An absolute no from me. West Ham deemed him not good enough for the Premier League. For once they weren’t wrong. |
Agreed. Not convinced at all that Flynn is what we need make the grade next year. He's solid and effective in the Champ but we all know the size of the step up. His bookings alone would be off the scale. For the money we'd have to pay there must be better out there. |  | | |

Ignoring the history, he’d be ok as backup to Matusiwa. But I hope we’re setting our stall higher so that ideally Matusiwa becomes the backup. If you see what I mean, and notwithstanding Matusiwa absolutely should get a chance to show what he can do in the PL and probably won’t let us down. |  |

Don't think it's fair to criticise him wanting to move. That's been turned into a story that he wanted out the whole time and was disruptive.
He wasn't. But he was head and shoulders above our level then and deserved the chance to play at a higher level. Palace interest must have been difficult to ignore. I know he refused to play but he then returned.
He's never been flashy but that's why I liked him. I remember seeing his full first team debut at a pre season friendly at Posh. His game was get the ball, move it quickly to a player in a better position, really intelligent and could put a tackle in.
Also I remember when he first came into the team and was very open about mental health and then needing that loan to Luton to get back to enjoying his football again. Very driven young man. And that feistiness in his game is a good thing. (Headbutts in pre season at Cambridge aside!).

Been 5 years since he was here. Since then he’s had just over à hundred games in the Championship with Swansea and Southampton and just under fifty in the Prem with West Ham and Southampton. Yes, he’s a solid, unfancy player but his level seems to be the Championship, which is ok and good for him. We need better though than solid and unfancy Championship players if we are to survive in the Prem. Time to dial it up à notch |  |
