I remember a time when supermarkets were competing for customer service, and cashiers used to offer to pack customers' bags for them. Compare that to now when customers have to check out all the items themselves, and cannot put anything in bags until everything is scanned through and weighed so the whole process takes longer, especially when errors occur.
Many Nectar discounts are a joke too, with items clearly doubled in price so they can then be offer 'half price'. Whoever would pay £7 for a tube of Colgate Total toothpaste?!
We do not work for the supermarkets so should push back. Ask them to open a proper till or leave the shopping and go to another shop who actually employ enough people and serve their customers.

I just find it baffling that governments wonder why there are job shortages in certain sectors and youngsters find it hard to get work, or people with disabilities finding it incredibly hard to get work themselves, and we just sit back and watch self serve take over everything
I remember leaving school you could walk into a mcdonalds and come out with a job from it, even they now have self serve, same with kfc, BK etc so it's not just supermarkets, i've even started seeing them pop up in M&S petrol stations
just ban the fkers and you open up thousands literally thousands of jobs, I don't see why that's so difficult

Yes, the businesses obviously like the customers doing the job that they used to pay someone to do. But the practice can be stopped, surely.
Having said that for baskets self checkout is much quicker...

There used to be faster queues for people with baskets, or under ten items, but those were replaced by the machines.
We should be very worried about technology taking entry level jobs, particularly when the benefit will go to big business rather than people.
There were, but you can fit a lot more self checkouts in the same space.
Anyway, I agree with the sentiment. If business are allowed to only care about the bottom line staff will always be the first to go.
At some point someone needs to stop and take a look and ask why we are moving in the direction we are. What is progress these days? Is AI good for people in any way? Is automating everything beneficial to mankind? Etc

You'd get my vote for the clothes sizing.
My minor thing would be to ban spectators having conversations during songs at gigs. Similarly I'd allow people to take a maximum of 5 pictures on their phone, and ban them from videoing at all.
Just enjoy the sodding gig that is happening in front of you, and allow the rest of us to do so too.
Any thoughts on people singing along?
"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."
