| Problems with the building work at ITFC on 07:58 - Jun 5 by SuffolkPunchFC | Not really. Season finished on May 3rd. Soonest the works could have started with the bank holiday was Tuesday May 6th, but reports seem to have suggested they started week beginning May 11th (first reported on May 13th) - a little over 3 weeks ago. With those timelines, being behind by 3 weeks already is not likely. |
Yes work started but they have not had enough staff on site, amongst other issues. My friend didn't start work until June 1. His company received a desperate request for builders after the work had started. Also "Progressive insight" as work has commenced a number of unidentified items have come up causing end dates to quickly move out. That was before the Asbestos issue was discovered. Highly doubt removing asbestos is something Mark Ashton gets involved in, he's probably not even got the license required to do so.

Indeed. Will add a six figure sum to the budget of the job I'd have thought, but it is what it is. And not a huge shock given the era in which the panels would have been used.

I posted months ago in one of the stadium development threads that it was full of asbestos and around it, you could tell that just by looking it at and its interior closely and would make any quick redevelopment super tricky. What did people expect ? it was built in the late 50s and expanded in the 80s when asbestos was just as common a building material as bricks or steel. Same with Cobbold, and Churchmans because they just built on top of the old stand, north probably escaped because it was just a concrete base with a roof. |
I few year back I had a problem with the extension on my house due to vents put in to allow are to circulate within the roof space. These vents failed allowing water in through the roof. It was an insurance claim. Because it damaged the ceiling it was deemed necessary to carry out a test to see if asbestos was present. Fortunately it wasn't. But I would say due to when the house was built in the 1970's that other ceilings may have it present. I understand that as long as you don't sand or rough up things like this it is not a problem. Many things that have been made or excavated in the past have caused health problems. Cotton Mills and coal. MDF, Quartz worktops, Fibreglass all still made. I worked on a resin plant and the stuff we handled was pretty bad. Acids, caustic, TDI (Toluene Diisocyanate) are only a few. In fact we used a material for helping the filtration of the resin. A filter aid, which we used to put resin into a 205 litre drum and a work colleague would pour the stuff from a bag into the resin and we would mix it in using a broom handle. No masks or anything. It was later discovered it was carcinogenic.
