Cooling break - ITV 21:28 - Jun 6 with 867 viewsZx1988

Nice to see ITV not switching to adverts just then.

Are they making a conscious decision not to for the whole WC, or is it likely that it was just that they couldn't sell the mid-half slots for a late-evening low-attraction friendly such as this?

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Would almost prefer ads to the drone of Lee Dixon.

It's like they have to have a negative dour commentator ruining the game.

Lawrenson. Murphy. Dixon.

Why?

Ofcom rules I suspect, theyre limited to an average of 7mins total of ads per hour across the day, and 8mins of ads during peak viewing time.

so the hydration ad breaks, which would have to be limited in length anyway to cope with ensuring you dont miss the game restarting and would come with the ITV bumper anyway, are going to take time away from their half time/pre/post match ad breaks, which are longer and they can probably sell for more money.

ITVs only real recent experience of dropping ads in like that are from their TdF coverage, and they werent always that great at getting it right.

though Im sure for say the final, someone might stump up the cash for a 30 second mid game...sorry hydration break...ad.

but Id imagine also ITV execs would go, it might force viewers over to BBC, which lowers our ratings, which affects our ability to sell ad space for this kind of stuff.

so its quite a complex decision for them really, they might just leave it, see what viewer feedback is.

From memory they were going to do invision ads during the cooling breaks but there was such a backlash they changed their minds. To me, I see no difference between ads and the commentators just telling us what's coming up time and again to be honest. The mid half slots would have made them more money per ad than the pre-match/half time/post match ones.

I really do not want to see advert breaks during the cooling breaks. There is plenty enough advertising as it is in football.
