He genuinely believes it. Because people have been telling him he is right and fecking laying hands on him at prayer meetings for years, telling him he is the chosen one.
both are used to getting their own way due to privileged upbringings and surround themselves with sycophants and yes men (and it is almost exclusively men!).
i think they genuinely can't understand what's happening when people push back against them.

One thing bullies can't take in any walk of life. People standing up to them. Do that and they run home crying to their Mothers metaphorically speaking, and possibly even for real on the odd occasion!
