I appreciate this MAY not be his doing but if we are not careful it's the end of the month before we get a new manager by the time he's officially gone. We need to be bang at it with the right signings etc now in preparation for a mammoth season ahead. If he does go we really need someone experienced in the PL but other than Frank whose rules himself out no one really jumps off the page. If I was Ashton I'd be offering KM a massive stay up bonus clause in his contract to keep him here which best case scenario pays for itself and then some worst case costs us nothing. Who knows ..... maybe a Dyche-type who can keep us up for a season or two might be best in the short term? I don't want Kieran to go, but i wouldn't be offering him anything more. He's got a good deal already and he knows the club and the fanbase and we shouldn't be chasing him with bigger and bigger offers. If he wants to stay ... stay and if he feels it's time to move on... then move on. We shouldn't be negotiating with Kieran. We're too personally attached with each other and I'd feel it cheapens our relationship it if we have to throw cash at him.

I agree with both of you fed up with this every summer and no don't throw cash at McKenna. . This is about what is right for the club now not whats right for McKenna head not heart.

There are likely to be offers and counter-offers being made, which all need to be considered. I don't doubt we will fight to retain him. Not an immediate process. McKenna's future and that of two football clubs at stake. It's unreasonable to expect everything to be tied up one way or the other in a matter of days. Not to mention that there may yet be nothing to confirm or deny (Phil has suggested as much). The fretting of some fans is not anyone's highest priority. Especially as window has not even opened and won't get going for some time after that. Most of the prep work will have been done weeks ago.

It seems in short supply today when everyone wants all aspects of decisions to be played out in real time for our entertainment. We’ll find out soon enough. It’s also going to be a very disrupted and probably delayed transfer window because of the WC.

That's like saying you should refuse a mortgage increase (which you can afford) to stay living in a nice house, because it should have more loyalty after you've been there for five years. Even if it means moving somewhere worse.

I don't want to overthink this, but we both know each other very well and if the only way to keep him a little bit longer is to pay him even more money ( on a very good contract) then I'd say that's a bit of a shame. He's done great for us, but we've also done great by him. Let's not undervalue the club and the fans and it's a great job. I'd rather he's 100% committed to us and looking forward to the season OR if he's looking at other opportunities then he leaves with our best wishes with the least amount of drama.

Just as an aside and stepping back. We need to look at the fact that KM is coveted by other Clubs as a real positive. It means we are in a very good place and doing this, generally, well and right. It's a good sign that our manager is potentially wanted by other Clubs. I would certainly rather be in this situation (even with all the noise it brings) than the alternative.

True. Upto a point. I think most supporters will start to become a little restless if this drags through to next week, with the transfer window opening and no idea which direction the club is going. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I for one would be hugely disappointed in losing McKenna and even MORE so if we went down the Dyche route. Would put a real dampener on the excitement of the season for me.

The situation is the same now as it was last week, as it was three weeks ago and as it was 6 months ago. KM is our manager until that changes. If fans chose to get restless, that's rather on them isn't it? The Club has a very clear direction - that direction is KM agnostic.

I tend to agree, but the last time we were in the PL it was a bit of a lame duck sh1tshow. In the end, it was a relief to get the season over. I hated the experience. If we did get a dull, non-sexy coach who kept us up by getting enough 1-0 wins and 0-0 draws to get over the line then I would say we'd be more engaged in the season than last time. I want Kieran to stay, but he could be a better manager with a more established PL club and higher expectations than with a relegation threatened club with lower expectations ( ie finish 4th from bottom).

Oh well, glad you sorted that out for us all. We can relax now !
| Fed up with this KM talk already on 14:03 - Jun 10 with 485 views | BloomBlue | If you're successful then other clubs will come for your manager, if you keep going backwards and end up in L1 (for example) then other clubs don't want your manager - strange that. Ipswich as a club will never be as big as some clubs, even when Sir Bob was here he nearly jumped to Everton. You either accept success equals other clubs will want your manager / players or happy with failure and nobody wants them | | | |
| Fed up with this KM talk already on 14:11 - Jun 10 with 450 views | mellowblue | If he commits too soon and then the dream job is offered to him, he would naturally accept but would have been seen to go back on his word. So why would he publically commit himself. What would he gain. Our peace of mind is not his concern. He is clearly ambitious, so will leave himself open to offers. | | | |

Agreed. He’s supposedly on £6M a year in the PL. last time out that was rumoured to be the sixth highest in the league. For that money he should be more than capable of keeping us up. I wouldn’t be offering him more. That should be incentive enough.
