Mark Ashton has almost exclusively hired young coaches with something to prove.. 08:05 - Jun 11 with 2266 viewsBellevue_Blue

Rob Edwards, Liam Rosenier, Gary O'Neill, Ange, Dyche ... They're not really Mark Ashton type appointments.

2005 - Hired Aidy Boothryd giving him his first job aged 34
2008 - Hired Brendan Rodgers giving him his first job aged 35
2016 - Hired Lee Johnson aged 35, from League 1 Barnsley giving him his first taste of Championship Football
2020 - Hired Lee Johnson's right hand man, Dean Holden giving him his first job in football aged 40
2021 - Hired Nigel Pearson to get them out of trouble. His only outlier.
2021 - Hired Kieran Mckenna giving him his first job aged 35

He clearly likes to have a younger profile of manager, someone who is a relative unknown, a tactician and a coach with something to prove.

I'd be amazed if our next manager was not a younger manager who is experiencing the Premier League for the first time. Maybe not as their first job, but first in the PL.

{Edited to include Brendan Rodgers}

Likes to have someone he can control.

This control thing.

Where's the evidence that Kieran was being controlled? Always got the impression Kieran was his own man and was allowed to be so.

How do we know that hasn't already happened? Not necessarily those managers but I'd have thought we started getting on with pinpointing his replacement two weeks ago.

I cant imagine that Kieran would have formally communicated his decision much before the start of this week. If he had it would presumably have been all over social media.

He was obviously considering his future and at that stage you put out the feelers and pull together a shortlist but you wouldn't be having face to face interviews.
