| Is the elephant in the room for our new boss recruitment the squad?! 22:05 - Jun 14 with 2507 views | unstableblue | I put up the below squad recruitment need a while back. Think it’s pretty much the consensus. 10 new players. Only 4 current players deemed good enough. If we’re going for some quality, and experience, maybe going abroad for the new manager. Isn’t this situation a bit of an issue? a project that looks too difficult. I’m sure our ‘new’ recruitment director has a good list of targets to share in the interview. But the new boss will want to stamp their own authority on the new players in the plan. In summary is our current squad quality going to turn off some desirable managers? Or is it actually a positive as the new guy can stamp his identity and get his type of players in. What is for certain, we need the new manager in very soon, as this squad gap is large and needs filling and we won’t sign anyone without the new guy in place. GK - XX, Walton, Palmer* LB - Davis, XX LCB - XX, Greaves RCB - OShea, Kipre RB - XX, Furlong LCM - XX, Taylor RCM - Matusiwa, XX LW - Philogene, Clarke, Mehmeti #10 - XX, Nunez, Egeli (U21) RW - XX, McAteer CF - XX, XX, Hirst | |

You'd have to sell probably 3 of our best players to do that! You'd need 80M+ from 3 of Philo/ Clarke/ Davis/ O'Shea if we assume we can get 20 from Muric + the other deadwood.

They didnt even have history behind them. Their fans were expecting one season in the PL and relegation, as they felt none of their players, maybe 1 or at max 2, were PL standard. Thomas Frank disagreed and said you can develop the players to PL level. They brought in a couple of players, got Ericsson on a free and a few loanees and survived. The PL hasn't really improved since they were promoted, and they are now fully established. Frank was proved correct. They proved you can develop championship players in PL quality.

Agreed. One of those marquee players will go (suspect Philogene), and then the likes of Taylor, Nunez, Szmodics, Mehmeti, Kipre, Akpom, Ali, Harry Clarke, Ogbene, Palmer, Ben Johnson will all command fees depending on how many of those we move on. The club has other assets they could get rid of to bolster the war chest as needed. New manager will very much set the tone for the summers business. It will be plain to see if they are on the same course as 2 years ago of building for the Championship, or if the new manager, executive experience and financial resources are available to make a proper fist of it this time round.

Can't see it personally as much as I like the thought . Simply throwing money at things doesn't make it better and that aside £250m+ and I'm not an accountant , surely is not feasible long term should that plan fail [Post edited 15 Jun 10:54]
