But without being sexist about this, blokes tend to be more reluctant to get checked out. It’s a bloke-ish culture thing which is why DS and JCs message is so important. Well done them!
| From Jeremy on 18:56 - Jun 20 with 912 views | GlasgowBlue | It's a joke that you can't get a test unless you have symptoms. I was lucky last year when I got the blood test and my PSA levels were high. Got the finger up the bum an thankfully it was just an enlarged prostate but my doctor likes me to get tested once a year now. | |

I had a bit of blood in my poo, obviously really worried Had to have a camera up there because of my age and symptoms Turns out it was because I’d taken sleeping tablets for too long. Once you have symptoms you can’t knock the NHS, it’s crazy how over 50s can’t have a yearly blood test

Isn't that because the blood test is very unreliable? Giving high numbers of both false positives and false negatives.

Yeah. Sex and exercise can give false readings so they will always give you a second test a week later. So no shagging or running for three days before the second test.

this is old information, the blood test is more reliable now (and much more diagnostic than b the finger up the bum) . you can request a blood test at any time if you have any concerns. get tested

Then again as a matter of course at my local surgery, The Grove. Just asked for one. Do it! Costs nothing, takes 10 minutes , a few days for a result, my save you up the road! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yes like all health screening there are pros and cons. It's not always an exact science with false positives etc which can lead to invasive surgery which carries its own risks and after effects. I think that's why a symptoms led approach, combined with family history is preferred by most experts. I know some high profile people want testing/ screening for all but it's not quite that straightforward. Having said that, even though I cannot abide Jeremy Clarkson, good luck to him and if he encourages men to act on potential symptoms then that's a good thing.
