Its all a hoax. Drill baby drill. Open up the North Sea. 13:28 - Jun 23 with 937 viewsredrickstuhaart

Get rid of the solar panels. Electric cars? Woke nonsense!

Poll: Will the US Mid terms get cancelled or "postponed"?

It's something that really grinds my gears when this is spouted by politicians but the interviewer doesn't challenge them on it. If all British oil and gas were "opened up" it would have absolutely minimal impact on the prices we pay or our energy security. North sea oil & gas is NOT Government owned, it's all drilled by privately owned companies. The prices for oil/gas are set on international markets (we've all heard about the oil per barrel prices during the USA/Iran war), so it doesn't matter how much we drill. UK gas/oil is not reserved for UK consumers - it's sold internationally to the highest bidder! The only possible impact is that an increase of british oil/gas could theoretically impact prices (supply/demand), but that is b0llocks, as prices are tightly controlled on the international markets (the supply side), and we could never produce enough to dent market prices (just Saudi Arabia alone has around 180 times more oil reserves than we do - the global market doesn't need our oil!). There may be a small level of extra resilience to global gas supply issues, as it could be possible to reduce the volume of gas required from global markets - but even if that did happen the price is still set on the international markets, so the price would not change. Moan over.........

Global temperatures were much lower before electric cars came along. Makes you think.

The only thing having your own oil reserves does is guarantee a supply. Even the Norwegian's were hit with higher fuel prices.

On a related note, I don't known what Trump's problem is with the aesthetics of windmills. They look kinda cool to me.

We know, really, that it's just because he's in the pockets of the fossil fuel companies. It's just repeating that they're ugly, like we're all going to agree if he says it enough, is weird.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I thought that Norway own all the all the North Sea oil production, the Conservative government sold it all off, if I remember correctly that is.

They built some in the sea and on land near to his golf course, if i recall correctly. I think thats part of the reason for his dislike on them apparently.

True. But we don’t own a drop of our own supplies, and likely never will! The Crown owns much of the sea bed around the UK (I think), but they just sell off the rights to the highest bidder, who will always be a well established, non public owned exploration and drilling company.

The negative with gas at the moment is we have to ship in loads from the US, burning loads of fossil fuel to do that. Having more gas out of the North sea would reduce that additional fossil fuel burning, and be less reliant on other countries

Also the counter argument is Norway. They did drill baby drill, and the tax they get from the private companies who drill has helped them a lot. They have a sovereign wealth fund, funded entirely from that drilling tax. Plus they have recently reached the amazing threshold of selling more EV cars than ICE cars and they've achieved that by building the charging infrastructure also funded from taxation on their oil/gas industry.
So Norway is heading faster towards an overall Green energy supply quicker than most countries, funded mostly from the taxation of their drill baby drill approach.

Oil and gas exploration has never been entirely about the price at the pump it's always been more about the taxation you obtain from the oil/gas produced. It was that income which (for example) allowed Blair and Brown to fund more public services.

However, the long term answer is plainly not more gas, but relying on other things so we dont need to. With the added bonus that every little step towards not having our grandchildren die on a barren scorched rock is worth taking.

Indeed and profits from North Sea production in Uk waters is taxed at 78pc due the windfall tax, so the benefit is funding our own state rather than Norwegian pensions, or the US military. It’s the very definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Whilst it’s sold on the international market, it’s mostly piped onshore to the UK so would have lower logistics cost (and lower carbon footprint ironically).
