| I hope we give Gary O’Neil the time. 20:01 - Jun 23 with 925 views | ITFC_Essex | I really don't want us to be back looking for a new manager come January just because things have not gone well, the Premier League is brutal. We will have had a new manager and squad together just a few months in the toughest league in the world, we can probably expect to be bottom three. That's not me trying to be negative, but it will take some doing to keep us up and not doing so won't make O'Neil a bad appointment at all. We saw how hard it was to bed new players in, in the Championship, last season and the nature of our transfer business being done relatively late in the window probably cost us the league title last season. The Premier League will be a whole other challenge. He's got a 3 year contract, lets see him get the time to do as he says, stabilize in the top flight. It might take another go yet to get there, like it did with say Fulham and Bournemouth. | |

I agree, I have my reservations due to the Wolves stint... but I don't want us to become a merry-go-round club again like we did under Evans hiring manager, after manager, from the bin heap.

I think as long as it gets to Xmas and you are in touching distance you are fine. Even last time we were in the league we were 1 point from safety on new Years day and off the back of some decent results feeling pretty good. If you get to January and you are dead and buried by then its probably a different conversation but im confident that wont happen.

I am ALL IN on O'Neil for the next couple of seasons. I don't really expect us to stay up, so anything above that is good enough. If we do end up back in the Championship then I full expect him and us to win the league, or come as damn close as we can to it.

Depends how we go down really.

Without the communication skills of McKenna that may prove tough.

I don't think he's even a top Championship manager so unlike McKenna we're going to get to Christmas and it'll make sense to "roll the dice"

So if we are adrift at xmas then he has failed his own criteria. But in general yes he should get a fair crack. Kmc had a poor premier league campaign and you could argue that if GON beats 22 points its an improvement.

50% of KM's squad had been recruited in L1 and we had one of the worst injury records in the division. GON should have a better base to work from, so I think it'd be a failure to be near KM's points total.

The sort of bullishness that Ashton would find hard to refuse I imagine. We've seen managers recover from chastening experiences to succeed, but more often than not there is a loss of confidence which spreads throughout the players and fans. Lets hope he has some original ideas because this could become a very long and drawn-out painful process.
