| How did anyone sleep last night? 08:08 - Jun 24 with 2757 views | Steve_M | It was 22.1C at Heathrow last night, not a great deal cooler where I was: Sleep well?
Last night was oppressive the warmest June night on record in capital a minimum of 22.1C at London Heathrow. This is well above next warmest night 20.8C set on 28 June, 1976. #heatwave — London & Southeast🔅 (@thesnowdreamer.bsky.social) 2026-06-24T06:29:36.758Z So, not brilliantly but ok. Give it two or three more nights like that though.....

| How did anyone sleep last night? on 01:16 - Jun 25 by Sarge | By opening the window after dark and having a fan on. According to the temperature on the fan it was 27-28° in the room all night but I’m lucky in that it doesn’t seem to affect me and as long as there’s some air movement I’m good. |
On the coast we have had a fret or is that a haar ? I suppose it depends on if your viking was a Dane or Norseman. 17 deg C for most of today. Cloudy, cool. Suits me.

When you go upstairs you get about 80% of the way up and the heat hits you. We got a portable AC for the kids bedroom, it works ok but is very inefficient. Luckily our solar panels are producing more than enough electricity for it all. Our bedroom was 26°C through the night. I'm seriously considering installing a centralised AC unit for upstairs. |
Make the most of that AC Puggy, your Government wants it taken out .

I never even thought to check the requirements and rules for installing one. To be honest it wouldn't have stopped me either way. I'm all for sensible policies, sensible environmental policies, but to be honest I am a bit of a hypocrite. I don't really care when it comes to ensuring my family are safe and comfortable. AC, wood burning stove, solar panels, we've got them all. Another AC unit for upstairs with a centralised ducting going down into every room is the next thing for the house, then a battery storage for solar panels.

Well, unless you're loaded (I got a quote for a split system a couple of years ago...it was around £10k) go for a portable unit. I've got a couple now, that just vent out of a window, cost less than £200 each.

We moved last year into a house with AC in the main bedroom. "Pah, I'll never use that!" he says... Bliss at night. The door opens to the stairs so it's done an ok job of spilling down and keeping the ground floor cool. Working out about £1.50/d if I keep it on all day (on the rare days it's this hot and we're home). My only gripe is that the intake is hovering over a ceiling vent with no ducting or pipe, so it's semi-open to the loft. The result is a faint waft of the bitumen roof felt from above. Might have to address that! [Post edited 25 Jun 21:55]
