One we might be in for? Being linked with West Ham. Sort of in that Omari mould, tricky winger. Left footed coming in off the right, young, can create and score. Had a stellar loan at Bolton last season.

Not necessarily one to go straight in the first team though.

I thought he looked a good player for Bolton. Looks robust too.

Between Burns, McAteer, Mehmeti, Walle Egeli, Akpom, Szmodics, Ogbene, and one of Clarke or Philogene, I suspect we have enough back-up attacking midfields in the squad already.

My Bolton-supporting mate raves about him but I'm not sure he is ready to make the step up to regular premier league football, and I think the rules prevent us from buying him and then immediately loaning him out?

You might be right in terms of the current depth, although I think we'll see a fair amount of change in that department. Burns out of contract and more likely to move on than stay I would think, Szmodics and Ogbene are done here, and I'd be surprised if Akpom is involved. Question marks over Mehmeti and Walle-Egeli too I'd say, in an O'Neil system.

I think he'll like McAteer, Clarke & Philogene with their pace and ability to get us up the pitch on the transition, but I wouldn't be surprised if beyond those 3 the rest are all at risk.

Looking at the way ONeil works think he will be looking for a different type of player to the ones McKenna wanted. He has a very different style of play to that of Kieran, the attributes he will want from players won’t be the same. At the end of the day we need robust players, athletic and strong. He knows the team that took us up is nowhere near good enough but he can’t say it. They will just get weeded out as he brings in at least 10-12 signings I suspect.

I think he'll be about acceleration, pace and straight line running speed in those areas. At Wolves he was quite fluid between a back 4 or 3, solid defensively, but a constant was their speed on the transition and counter attack with pace out wide. That's where I was coming from with Cozier-Duberry, he's rapid and in that wide right side position a player of that profile is inevitable I think. I think he'll like McAteer, but we'll strengthen there. Not sure Cozier-Duberry is ready to be that guy quite yet, but maybe one for the future.

Walle-Egeli doesn't fit that profile at all for me, it'll be interesting to see where he's used if at all.

I know he is young and he needed a year to settle but Egeli isn’t a PL footballer. I don’t see him fitting in. We spent an awful lot of money on a project that we really haven’t got time for. Clubs like Man City and Chelsea can afford to do that. We can’t. That money could have gone on a decent first team ready player.

Between Burns (Likely Released), McAteer, Mehmeti (Possible loan), Walle Egeli (Possible Loan), Akpom (Likely Sold or Loaned), Szmodics (Likely Sold), Ogbene (Likely Sold), and one of Clarke or Philogene.

I reckon we've got room.

This is the problem, maybe we were naïve thinking last season we could carry / develop a player without really needing him.. Maybe you can say that is true as we were promoted but he's clearly nowhere near what the required level will be next season. He was barely a championship level player.

Needs a loan I'd say.

It'll be interesting. He just isn't the profile of a wide man in an O'Neil system I don't think, or anyone else's IMO. One thing I'm sure about is he hasn't found his position, I don't think he has that turn of pace or ball carrying ability.

In time I think he's destined to play more centrally, whether its in the 10 or 9. Where his ceiling is in those positions is anyone's guess, time will tell, but it'll be interesting to see. No doubt we've paid a lot for him and the club will be doing everything it can to protect that investment, its going to be interesting to see what O'Neil's fresh eyes see for Walle.
