Berlin roll-call 14:07 - Jun 26 with 4727 viewsZx1988

Granted it's still six weeks away, but it's hardly going to be one of those spontaneous 'wake up and see if you fancy it' sort of friendlies.

Who's going?

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

A little pricey by German standards, but really can't argue with £4.50 for a stadium pint.

And it won't be watered-down UK pisswater either...

Premier Inn hotels don't seem to come up on general searches and didn't realise they're now in Germany as well if it helps anyone.

I always use Trivago, and they pop up there.

Not a fan myself - why would I want to default to an English brand when I'm abroad - but I can understand their appeal.

Is Hackescher right in the centre and where there are lots of pubs on a square?

I have been to Berlin years ago and this sounded vaguely familiar.

Yes, that's it - Hackescher Markt.

You'll be able to get the S3 direct from there to Köpenick as well.

I vaguely remember being in there and my partner at the time got annoyed with me as I got chatting to a Port Vale fan and she wanted to go all Berlin hipster whilst I was quite content.

Split up shortly after and I believe Vale went down....

Certainly hoping to be. Typical fashion, found cheap flights, but massive increase after a few mates took a couple of days to get sign off.

Sure we’ll find a way!

With the early rumours of a pre season game in Spain, was 9 of us interested in a footie weekend but Annoyingly that game is behind closed doors. So was glad to hear about this one, but now down to just the 2 of us because of the date. Morning flight on the Friday - Sunday night return.

Looking at booking hotel near Hackescher market (hotel Zoe) considering the advice on here, looking forward to it

Can't see the appeal of going to an Irish bar in Berlin personally. Bit like going to a fish & chip shop in Benidorm, however each to there own.

Are Trivago OK these days? I steer clear due to their early business model. Used to book with them (they got you a really good deal) then a couple of days before you needed it they'd contact you and say "really sorry, that one is no longer available but instead we've got you this...!" which was obviously a much more expensive hotel or in completely the wrong place. That near to the required date it was very difficult to find an alternative so you had to curse and accept it. Happened a couple of times, so I ditched them for ever.
I assume they don't still do this? Or do they?

Surely they're fine now - they've even got Jurgen Klopp doing their adverts during the world cup, along with anyone else that waved a few quid under his nose.

How, as a proud German he can bring himself to encourage people to drink Budweiser I've no idea.

Nice one. Looking at travel to the ground, if I have enough time it looks like a short hop to the old Templehof airport? Might try that before the game. Think the Market is just a good walk from my hotel on Gabrielle Tergit Promenade?

Which market are you talking about?

At Gabriele-Tergit-Promenade you'll be a stones throw from Potsdamer Platz, the Sony Centre, and Mall of Berlin.

It's about 20mins by public transport to U Platz der Luftbrücke, which will get you to the old Tempelhof terminal. You'll want to go a stop further south on the U6 to Paradestraße to access Tempelhofer Feld itself.

From there it's fairly easy and about 40mins to get out to Köpenick - north to Friedrichstraße on the U6, and then out to Köpenick on the S3 towards Erkner or Friedrichshagen.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

3 of us all signed up!

Flying from Stansted early Saturday and then back on the Sunday - boss is away the week before and week after so it will be a short one for us!

Staying at the generator just off Alexanderplatz purely for the transport ease.

Always wanted to see Town play abroad.......
