| Championship Fees 16:43 - Jul 7 with 1871 views | itfc48 | The usual suspects are splashing the cash but I'm surprised to see Preston and Portsmouth both lining up £5m + signings. Hopefully means we can get some decent fees for those we want to move on. | | | | |
| Championship Fees on 23:15 - Jul 7 with 1426 views | darkhorse28 | I’m not sure fees will be an issue. At this level we have so much more revenue, we’ll happily let players go for less than we paid or their value - it’s wages. Who of Walle, McAteer, Akpom, Ogbenne, Johnson, maybe even Greaves and one or too others could get even half their wages elsewhere? They have y done well enough so it’s only EFL sides and some of those are paid Premier League players wages.., they won’t be taking a pay cut. Some of the deals we did, most supporters seem to think it’s a computer game and we just go again.., but the liabilities linger - often for while contract lengths. They’ll mostly have to go on loan, with us paying some of their wages. It’s where we are failing. Our competition do it better - they send out players to develop, we’re tying up resources on players we don’t want, even if relegated, but won’t be able to move on. Johnson is in what £50k per week plus - even premier league clubs won’t touch that, he’s not good enough, Akpom the same, Ogbenne too. Not getting value and quality in the market since we had resources could be a serious issue if we do it again, and go down.., fingers crossed this window is the exception, but doesn’t look great with the links, same tired process and decision makers. Some of these players will be on our books for at least the next two seasons, not great. The only hope is they rip it up somewhere and even then we’ll have to pay up part contracts to make it work. Awful business some of it. | | | |

£20m in the PL is the equivalent of a free transfer in L1. Absolutely mental prices.

Thanks for your daily dose of happiness. Anything new? No, thought not. ‘It’s where we are failing’ - yep, three promotions in four years. Terrible effort really. OTBC

Lots that’s a massive opportunity, and to be positive about, as there was last time. Just being realistic. I’m measuring against Leeds and Sunderland who have sailed past us during those promotions. As have Forest. Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton, how they’ve established themselves relative to what we did and are doing. You’re measuring against Milwall, Oxford, Mkrecombe and Forest Green, and Plymouth. It’s fair enough. 3 promotions is sensational, we can only beat what’s in front of us, but our 22 points where it counts, adjusted for resources spent was probably the worst ever season at this level. And we have a worse squad. The same recruitment process and same person as the only voice in the room. How confident are you we’ll stay up? No world class coach that our resources and status could attracts, and. I world class players either - Forest just sacked a manager three times better than the one we just appointed, he’s WON TROPHIES all over the world. So something something Morecombe .., doesn’t really work does it. Our history, our trophies, our stadium, our revenue, our squad, it was never league one, that was a blip and outlier in our history. Yet you seem desperate to be stuck there!! Desperate not to scrutinise us against smaller clubs (often) who are doing MUCH better with less. Why is that? Need the comfort of a heard mentality? We’ve don’t great if EFL is the measure, god awful if EPL is, both can be and are true. IF Ashton isn’t this level after 35 years trying, I promise that’s a huge problem for the club, because there’s one thing he’s been world class at, managing up AND down to ensure HE is the only football voice at the club. So clap away. But know there are consequences. I can’t conceive of you and Ashton needing to compare us to Morecombe, blows my mind in truth. SO small, teeny tiny, worthless Ipswich. I get why he does it. Career protection mode - you’re excuse? .., just keep your head down and clap I guess - that’s not support (imo).

Last paragraph - support: so you believe criticising, moaning and coming out with negative, inaccurate nonsense every single post slanted to ‘make a point’ without exception is support do you? Realistic: no you are not. You keep using the phrase ‘sailing by’. Well Sunderland were promoted from L1 a year before us. They’d sailed. They did well last year. So what. Most promoted sides don’t. Leeds: relegated from the Premier the year we were promoted from L1. So they were already sailing with years of Premier cash and infrastructure when we turned up and ‘sailed by them’. That is how it was. But don’t trouble yourself to give the ownership management or staff at the club any credit. Why do that when there’s misery to be found? More than one of Forest Brentford Bournemouth and Brighton yo-yo’d, but they have established themselves now. Clubs doing things in different ways with varying success, just as Wolves, Burnley and West Ham have….oh. Sorry, I meant Norwich, Sheffield U, West Brom, Leicester…. How do you know who I measure us against? Maybe I don’t measure us against anyone but focus on all aspects of the club’s progression? Why bring up Morecambe? Nobody’s mentioned them and in any case, why be disrespectful towards them or anyone else? Their support however small is as passionate as anyone’s and I doubt they have people moaning about everything connected to their club as much as you, even if I assume you actually support ITFC. Worse squad: well I presume you are well placed to judge living in Scotland for 22 years and doing all that travel for home games. Can’t knock that. Good effort. But even then, your description of worse squad is opinion, not fact. Your view of the recruitment process is opinion, not fact (see other thread). How do you know it’s the same recruitment process? Maybe you are doing some scouting or recruiting. Come on, spill the beans. Forest? Oh, them who were nearly relegated, regardless of who their coach was and employed how many managers last season? Their business. Our time in League One was fully deserved. Every second of it. We were heading to L2 and would have deserved that too. It’s where we were as a club. Rotten inside out, so describing it as a blip in our history is incorrect. It was an inevitable consequence of mismanagement by a clueless owner and a line up of managers bar one who had no idea. You like to make comments towards me about ‘herd mentality’ (correct spelling). Which herd? Those in the ground? Those who take a more balanced view? If that’s herd mentality, count me in. Since when did constant moaning, negativity and misery get anyone anywhere? You also seem very sure of my levels of desperation, herd mentality and head down happy clapping, making excuses - and Morecambe too! I can’t recall ever mentioning them but you are the one with I presume the huge IQ (you mention IQs quite a lot) so maybe you are right. Maybe with your laser intellect you know me. Or maybe you don’t, because the only person that does is the one I see in the mirror. As for you, are you unwell?

Leeds and Sunderland are bigger clubs than us. The others you mentioned when fees / wages were still mental, but not as much as they are. £35m+ at least is the going rate for a player who will make a significant difference.
