| Not actually spent a huge amount yet on 13:40 - Jul 22 with 1417 views | tractorboy1978 | Even if we sold Philogene for £30m we would have an accounting profit of over £15m to play with - pays for the first year's amortisation for Emersonn, Maeda, Scherpen, KVO, Diop, Fatawu (assuming they all sign). I think we will probably get decent fees for a couple of the fringe players too. We have little idea where players like Nunez, Mehmeti, Akpom, Hirst, McAteer will fit come the end of the window. But Championship clubs are splurging money at the moment. Then obviously Szmodics, Ogbene, Clarke, AAH will be off too. | | | |
| Not actually spent a huge amount yet on 13:47 - Jul 22 with 1350 views | _CliveBaker_ | Emersonn £24m Fatawu £20m Maeda £10m (assuming it happens) Diop £8.5m Akpom £7m Van Ovelen - £3.5m Kipre - £3.5m Is that about right? Anyone I've missed? Got to be on about £70m Net of Muric / Baggot on a real life basis. Probably £15m on an amortised basis. Selling Philogene will effectively net that back below £0 as it stands I guess. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a further £100m spent this window. | | | |

I certainly still think we will break our transfer record at least once more in this window. And we've still got our 2 loans from other PL clubs chips to play too. [Post edited 22 Jul 13:52]

Yeah I think there's plenty more to come. As you said in your previous post, I wouldn't be surprised if we sell £50m+ worth of players this summer when you consider Muric and Baggott have already contributed in the region of £10m of that, Philogene would be north of £25m himself. Plus Palmer, Szmodics, Clarke, Ogbene, Al-Hamadi will all bring in fees. I expect a couple of Humphreys, Nunez, Mehmeti, Akpom, Walton moving on in some capacity too. 10 out this summer I think, including the 2 that have already been sold.

Outside of JP, who I hope we can keep, I don't see too much in the way of permanent departures. Who's going to take any of those fringe players you mention now they're now on prem wages? Think it'll be loans for quite a few of those. [Post edited 22 Jul 14:03]

Some Championship clubs are spending big, Boro just agreed a 20m fee for Lankshear from Spurs for instance (although they have Rogers money incoming). Some players might also want to play, Palmer for instance might take a drop in wages in order to play at a top-end Champ team. I don't think it'll be about wages for all of them and there is also a signing on fee usually. SB

In some instances, I suppose it depends how happy we are to facilitate deals and grease the palms of players to leave I guess. For some it depends what PL wages actually look like after promotion clauses. There are some ambitious Championship clubs about this summer spending big money on fees/wages/signing on fees. You are right though that loans will probably be the way for a few of them. [Post edited 22 Jul 14:15]

Yeah but they can play and still be on prem wages by going on loan. Palmer I could easily see going on loan to a top championship club for example. Only way they go out on perms is if we partially pay up and they get offered longer contracts elsewhere. Otherwise it makes no sense for anybody. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yes exactly, that's what I just said to SB. We will need to partially pay up if we want them out on perms. However, given there's still a good chance we're back in the Champ next season, I don't think we'd want to get rid of them all permanently in my opinion. EDIT: I wouldn't rule out somebody like West Ham making a silly money bid for Davis. Which I think we'd entertain given he had a difficult time last time out in PL. [Post edited 22 Jul 14:31]

Whilst this is also true, Prem to Champ transfers do happen has I have highlighted so it's certainly possible some might want to make a permanent move. We can't assume all just want to go on loan for wages. Some might want to be settled etc. In some cases it probably would make sense to pay up some of the difference. SB

Don't think we would sell Davis and I also think there were extra circumstances around that season in that he was asked to bomb on but wasn't getting the cover required. I think he will be better this season, might even end up as a WB depending on how we set up. SB

A silly money bid/play for Philogene is the one to keep an eye on. Especially given the money they are about to get for Summerville.

I think those partial payments just get considered in the context of the deal really. Someone like Szmodics, he's got 2 years left on his contract and if interested clubs can only get to £10k less than he's on with us it's then a bit of a negotiation. He might be happy with a £500k cheque given its up front, and he'll get 3 years somewhere else, plus he can head off to play football. Just have to take it on the chin in the context of a £3m fee or whatever. There's probably a handful that's most relevant for - Palmer, Ogbene, Szmodics, Akpom. Probably AAH as well, as while he'll be on less £ the interested parties are likely to have shallower pockets. As you say will no doubt be a combination of a couple done like that, a couple out on loan, and maybe 1 or 2 staying around.

Yes that's true re Leif. I'd often thought he and Wes would be perfect wing backs. Let's see but if Spammers offered £40m for example I think we'd have to listen at least. They have £70m now burning a hole in their pocket.

They're better off buying Akpom. Proven at Championship level with Boro and has a promotion under his belt, I think he's a guaranteed 30 goals a season for them and we know how valuable that is. Got to be worth £20m of anyone's money innit.

Yes also true. I'd imagine though some of the salaries on offer in Turkey, that has been a rumoured destination, plus tax advantages, blow West Ham out of the water. If JP was solely focussed on football then he'd stay where he is but doesn't seem to be the route the agents are going down.

I read they sold 50,000 season tickets too, plus they have the parachute payments. That said, I think we'd have to pay a huge amount to replace the attacking dimension Davis brings to the team.

Fair enough, just so you can enjoy a final few hours with him before we have to part ways? I agree it would be a sad day, but at the rumoured £20m it would be hard to say no.

They might end up being the only club willing to pay the fee we would want. £30m+ would make him the 3rd most expensive player ever bought by a Turkish club. Osimhen and Grennwood being the two most expensive - both players of a far bigger profile. [Post edited 22 Jul 14:59]

Whatever happens I hope it's swift and we can move on quickly. Last thing we need is another protracted Omari situation - especially given all the positive momentum that we seem to have now. If he doesn't want to be a part of that then fk him!
