‘It’s a waste of taxpayers money’ blah blah.

Mainly from Reform and Restore lot obviously. They’re even going off on one about him getting a police escort everywhere (it’s just common practice) and that he should take public transport

Bar the royals the PM is probably always the most protected bloke in the country, he can’t just hop on trains anymore, again more negativity for him using a plane for a journey.

All the above is just shít stirring really isn’t it, to answer my own question, and people fall for it all the time and this is why there’s always angry people who want a new PM every week.

I think it’s a good thing.

Shows London isn’t the be all and end all.

It was a government building anyway.

Same as people slagging off the £2 bus fare cap and the 20% reduction in rates for pubs etc. May not affect everyone but helps (a little bit) for those it does.

FWIW Burnham comes across as a decent and professional bloke who seems to connect to people a lot better than previous robotic PM’s.

No, they're not all the same. The right do 100x more brown stirring than the left, partly due to most of the press being right wing. Absolute nonsense to suggest they're all the same.

I don’t give a sh1t where he lives. Do I like him? Not sure yet but, I think he’s more likeable than ‘No idea Kier’. Why does it have to be London or Manchester what’s wrong with say Cornwall?

I'd imagine that a full commute to London from Cornwall with security escort would be quite pricy and snarl up the motorways a touch.

Yes, I think Burnham (& many others) think England has become far too London-centric & while it does produce a hugely disproportionate part of the country's income & tax revenue, I believe some regional distribution would be a good thing. My worry with Burnham is that while he's a great communicator & does come across with a genuine wish to improve the lives of the poorer sections of society, he is in danger of doing too much "gesture politics". The real test will be if he can actually make some of the tough decisions on spending & taxes (Starmer couldn't).

I am sure they are not at all hypocritical over security and are outraged at any suggestion that Farage can claim any security from any sources and want him to take public transport too.

As for wasting taxpayers' money, doesn't the cost of basing everything in London cost a lot more than Manchester would do?
