A fantastic effort by them - 6,500 travelling over for a pre-season friendly. I saw somewhere on another post that it being Hansa's 60th birthday this year may have also had something to do with it.
I recall 1. FC Magdeburg fans making a similar effort (albeit smaller) when they had a friendly here against Norwich a couple of seasons back. They clearly indulged in a trip to the coast as well, as Yarmouth was absolutely covered in their stickers. | |

To my mind, your last sentence sums up the ethos and mind-set of a good chunk of European ultras culture, especially in respect of German fans (where the majority of my experience lies).
They see their role as being to support the team through the creation of atmosphere - watching all 90mins of the game is very much a secondary consideration for a lot of them. Hence the capos with their backs to the game, large view-blocking flags, and all the other stuff that 'distracts' the ultras from the game. | |

The bouncing up and and down is a big part of German football culture amongst the ultras (and other european countries tbf) - the players then come and join in after a victory, it really makes it feel like the fans and supporters are united as one. Its incredible to see. | | | |
