I deactivated rather than deleted Facebook. I'll still reactivate it now and again, make the mistake of reading the comments under a news story, and then deactivate again in despair.

I honestly feel quite sad when I read comments under any news story. I know that the sort of people who live for the dopamine hit of negative posting on facebook are not representative of the public as a whole, but bloody hell......

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

Personally I'm more worried about those neolithic farming types coming over here on their small boats bringing their foreign farming culture with um.

Stop the boats, goats and oats?

It got worse with the Normans invading, they didn't integrate, just holed up in their castles. Stop the moats...

The mocking of the far right will upset a few. Time to stop the gloats.

I left twitter not long after Musk took over, when it was clear what the direction of travel was.

I'd leave Facebook too, but it would mean losing touch with a lot of people who I'd prefer to stay connected to.

You could always write them letters.

This morning's developments:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo

'Uefa will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday afternoon to discuss its response to the controversial World Cup stakeholder plans proposed by Fifa and its president Gianni Infantino...European football's governing body kept up its offensive over the plans after it was discovered Fifa had sent a letter, seen by the BBC, to all 211 member associations giving them until 19 September to decide if they want to accept the deal, and with it the first $20m (£15m) of an initial $40m (£30m)...Many associations, including the Football Association, are furious at only learning through the media of the proposal to sell a 20% stake in Fifa competitions to private finance - led by the Thrive Eternal investment vehicle owned by Joshua Kushner, the brother-in-law of US President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka...FA chairwoman Debbie Hewitt was among the Fifa vice-presidents not given advance warning. Uefa's unease has been echoed by the Asian, South American and North and Central American Confederations...Former FA and Manchester City chairman David Bernstein said England must "withdraw" from the World Cup if Infantino's proposals go through.'

Burnham's the f****ng tits, isn't he? - I've been trying to keep a lid on it, but after a period of such relentless negativity, it's lovely to have some optimism.

An actual ideas man with principles and policy - when was the last time the UK was run by someone who actively wanted to implement new ideas?

Beautiful - it's lovely to have a little light of hope again.

Andy Burnham could have equally written this.

"Let me say this very directly.

Football does not belong to investors. It belongs to the people who fill the stands and who stand on the touchline week in, week out, rain or shine.

The top division in England is not a product. It is the greatest competition in world sport, and it was never anyone's to sell. Dress the deal up however you like. Once you have sold a piece of it, you have sold out.

Football belongs to the fans. It always has, and it always will."
