He really is so much more suited to that 10. Still lots to learn but he has such a silky touch and he can make some effortless incisive passes.
We know if we can get him in pockets he has a fantastic shot on him as well. Really hope he keeps on developing.

Cant disagree with that tbh ... He is SO young and now at a club at a level that I dont think he's ready for, yet. A season in CC with a decent club( who ?) is what's required as we cant afford to carry anyone in that 25 squad in terms of limited playing time, can we. |

I thought he was really poor last season tbh. He's a young lad and needs time, but I saw nothing to suggest he's remotely close to a premier league player. Very meek, struggled to influence games for the most part, I'm not sure what his USP is meant to be as he's not especially quick or strong, doesn't seem to have the ability to beat a man, crossing from wide areas was largely poor, and his finishing was average. Still has time on his side but as we sit here today I'm not convinced he will bring anything to the party this season.
It felt to me like a lot of people seeing what they wanted to see with him, largely because he had an £18m (EIGHTEEN!) price tag around his neck. Had we signed him for £800k people would speak about him in the same terms as Al-Hamadi, accept he's nowhere near the level, and nobody would be expecting him to have a squad place with us this season.
Might sound harsh but I just don't see what we've paid so much money for right now. I'd look to get him out on loan where he's going to start 40 games. |
I can't agree with that. Not all of it at least. 'meek' I do think was a reasonable word for him at times last season. Young boy coming to a very physical league so can understand it but that doesn't make you wrong. At times he was far too easy to knock off the ball or look close in a 50/50.
But, his technique, weight of pass and manipulation of the ball at times was fantastic. Glimpses sometimes but you could absolutely see a footballer and that's why he was getting the game time. He can knock a pass and deliver a baller probably better than anyone else in the team. Nunez a contender of course.
What excites me about him is the potential and the development still in him. You can add the physicality and I think there is speed to unlock (McKenna referenced it). Reminder me a bit of when De Bruyne went to City. Mourinho doesn't wait and never has in his career. But people knew he had something. Not saying he will teach that level but he has something others don't. It's never been a proof of future success but he's broken a lot of records at international youth level for Norway. | |

Agree with this. He is a talent. We didn't play as a team last year. In fact I can only remember about three goals that were a result of good passing moves. He scored some vital goals for us. Think with some good coaching he could be a very good player. | | | |

Agree with your assessment of how he fared last season relative to the price tag. A couple of excellent moments but his normal was that of a player fighting or struggling to adapt to Championship level.
I want to believe his potential is far above what we saw, which places me half in the group you outline in the second paragraph. I wouldn't have that same optimism had he arrived for £800K no doubt, but I'd like to think I'd be open to good improvement still based on his age and inexperience.
I'd only envisage him having a squad place if the thought was that we could better accelerate his conditioning and other aspects in-house, rather than at the club standard he'd need to drop down to for reliable minutes. | | | |
