A few in here are quite versatile, e.g. Enciso could play in the 10 and Maeda in the central 10, but how's this looking? I think the shape is about right for a 25 man squad in terms of 3 x keepers and 2 for each position + 2 or 3 in attacking areas. We might want to carry a 5th CM instead of 1 of those though.

Could save a squad place by getting van Oevelen out on loan and an U21 keeper in, but not sure that's likely.

Might be scars from last time but I'm not convinced its strong enough to stay up, but obviously depends on who those additions are to some extent. Leaves a lot to move on as well - Palmer, Ogbene, Humphreys, Taylor, Philogene (purely because he wants out), Al-Hamadi, Hirst (ideal world I'd keep him ahead of Akpom, but no doubt much easier to move on at a profit rather than a loss) all not making this 25.

You absolutely wouldn't play Azor and Florentino together. The front 3 in that system would never get a touch.

Not sure where this view of Fatawu being played as a central 10 is coming from either? He's an inverted winger and nothing else. I don't think 3-4-2-1 suits our likely squad in the final third whatsoever.

If we go 4-2-3-1 (GON's preferred shape) in the final third I'd like to see:

Fatawu - Enciso - Maeda

Emersonn/New ST


Agreed. We need a couple of ball progressors in CM now to compliment Matusiwa/Florentino. Whether that be ball carriers or creative passes between the lines. Makes me think we aren't going to get Lukic now as he's another that isn't very progressive.

Fatawu is an inverted wide man, loves to come in on the inside, hence I have put him as an inverted wide man

In a 3-4-2-1, the 2 behind the striker are often much narrower. That wouldn't suit Fatawu at all. His game is much better suited to making the pitch as big as possible, giving him the option to go either way.

Re. Azor/Florentino - I'd be recruiting someone with a better rate for progressive passes. Florentino can be the destroyer/interceptor and quiet starter of transitions, but we need someone with physical stature and impeccable passing range. A bigger, more imposing Cam Humphreys would be delightful. If you could pair Humphreys' passing range with the physical attributes of a Caleb Yirenkyi you'd be onto a winner.

It would suit Fatawu, of course it would, he can go either way from a narrower position starting point, he would almost have the exclusivity of that right side almost to himself to drift, and most importantly he would be in a much better starting point for his inside right finishes, madness to say it wouldn't suit him at all.

Re the midfield, with 1 ball winner, in front of our back 4, we would be butchered most weeks in the Premier League, absolutely murdered.

Agree re front 4 but getting a decent striker is a must.


Minimum needed,
RB, Lb, CB, MF, St. An extra midfield and striker would be better. All of these 5/7 new players have to be nailed on starters. Lots of players to leave.
