With some of our established players like Chappers, Burns, H Clarke and Hirst getting promoted with us to the PL and then moving down one or even two leagues to play for another club, it got me thinking it’s like a crazy game of snakes and ladders. Why do they do it? What’s their mindset and priorities?
I get that they want to play football and are likely to get more minutes in a lower league and I understand they want longer contracts and financial security for themselves and their families but it must be very demoralising getting that chance to play in the PL (albeit as a squad player rather than a regular starter) only to go back to where they were a year or so ago but with another club.

Must be tough emotionally but comes with the territory and I suspect they get 'taught' about it as part of the football development. |  | | |

But What’s the alternative? Play 400 games for a Mansfield or Colchester? They sniffed the prem because they were good enough to help get us there. It’s a short career and that group has two or three magical promotions on their CV. It could be painted as failing but it’s really not. |  |

A lot of players want to play regular, competitive football, and don’t enjoy sitting on the bench, both Burns and Chaplin strike me as players like this. I also think that players know what level they are competitive at and at level they will struggle.
Being a professional footballer is a job to them first and foremost, we as fans tend to look at it more romantically. |  | | |

Yep, it’s weird.
Supporters have to get used to a whole bunch of new players every year. Who will probably only stay for a year or two.
Players, if successful in getting a team promoted, have to leave and try and do it all again. Because the jump is too big for them.

From Burns perspective I understand completely. He would have had a few substitute appearances a and decent wage for the 1 year remaining how ever if he acl went again it would pretty much be game over for some one his age on a one year contract. However with 3 you have the stability to not have to worry about it and no doubt Leicester will still be paying him a fair whack. I think he will do well, the same for Chappers. Will certainly hope they do well and hate to say might have to make Leicester by honorary second team. | | | |
