Internationals, World Cup players, top tier experience from Europe and the Prem. The question now is can we forge them into a team, what will the approach and philosophy for the season be?
From a fan perspective, everything is up in the air. Formations, attack versus defence, how well the squad gels, how effective all of this will be, have we signed enough quality or far exceeded the base level, what we will be like to watch - we have no real idea. It's difficult to know where to pitch our enthusiasm and expectations, there is still so much we don't know (including even who will be here and who not, come September 1st).
I'm quite looking forward to the first few games. It won't be until then that we have any real idea of the trajectory for this season. [Post edited 8 Aug 0:05]

Think it also doesn't help that we haven't seen "the team" play yet, just a few individual flashes during mix-and-match preseason games. Let alone in a competitive fixture with something really riding on it.
If we can start putting points on the board and good performances in against top teams, then this squad will pretty soon become lovable. Look how quickly Nunez endeared himself to Town fans last season, lack of fluent English notwithstanding. Or Matusiwa with his battling performances. [Post edited 8 Aug 9:11]

I think we have done solid business. Im not as bullish as some people but that's purely because I want to see what the finished squad looks like first and feel like some of the signings we have made so far will look better with some different profiles around them.
But it's been decent. Diop and Lukic the standouts for me. Lots to do. |  |

The other slight worry is are we going too far the other way with getting in foreign players?
The criticism before was that we weren't looking too far (and wanted English speakers). Now, unless I've missed someone, we've exclusively signed foreigners. Might sound daft, and I'm sure we'll all grow to love them, but it doesn't feel very 'Ipswich' at the moment. There's no-one home grown anymore, apart from Humphreys, who I presume will go on loan/won't feature. No-one even English coming in. Are we in danger of turning into a bunch of foreign (admittedly, good) mercenaries who care more about being in the Prem than being at Ipswich? |
We abandoned old Ipswich when Gamechanger took over. As much as we loved the 2022-24 group our academy had been abandoned with only Woolfenden playing a part and most were "mercenaries", just of the UK variety.
I really dislike the signings we made during the summer of 2024. They were not good enough and, as a whole, did not do enough to earn starting spots ahead of the promotion group - not that the promotion group were good enough either. In all honesty, if we replace all of them bar O'Shea in the window I will have no issue with it. We need to. I'm not even sure about Delap coming back.
We have to be savvy in the market and that means going for foreign players. British prices are at a premium. We wasted so much on the likes on Greaves, Philogene and Clarke compared to their actual quality. The old way of football has died. We either have to move on or go backwards. |  |

Why does nationality matter? Why would a player from London, Manchester, Birmingham etc care more about Ipswich and our history?
The premier league (and football in general tbh) has been an international league for a long time, the amount of superstars who have come to league and had poor English at the start, you can’t really complain about someone’s English if they haven’t lived/played in the UK before give them a chance!
If we had it your way we’d be buying exclusively from the championship again and look how that turned out last time. [Post edited 8 Aug 9:35]

You've completely misunderstood/misrepresented everything I've said.
To your points;
1. I'd have thought it's pretty obvious that players from this country would know more about the club and its history than players from far flung lands.
2. I've not complained about anyone's English (other than yours) if they haven't lived here long.
3. "My way"? What is "My way"?!? I've simply stated the fact that they've ALL been foreign so far. Where have I remotely suggested we do anything "exclusively" let alone "exclusively from the Championship"?!?

Players regardless of nationality do not care about the clubs history - all they care about is the ambition of a club, whether they will play regularly and money.
The prime reason behind fans and players ‘bonding’ is due to on-pitch success. If the double promotion winning team finished mid-table in L1 then there would be no talk or posts at all about connection.
Primarily, most fans and players only truly care about on-pitch success. |

Chambers, 350+ games, and Skuse, 250+, will never be loved as much as Chaplin or Burns.
Despite spending many more years with us, and settling in the area after their playing careers ended.
