That’s 29 when you remove Egeli (U21) and Button.
We need 5 further new players: RWB, #8, #9, #10, LB (could be more with a 5th CB and RAM)
As a minimum taking us to a first team squad of 34! So we need to ship out 9!

Taylor, McAteer, Mehmeti probably the 3 most likely to stay. I’d be surprised if they all went, but think it’s likely at least 1 does. Maybe 2. It’s possible 1 of the arrivals is u21 so we could be in a position where 5 come in and eg McAteer stays. |  | | |

I get the impression that McAteer and Mehmeti are still in GON's plans - at the very least he's still undecided as he seems to be having a good look at them in the friendlies so far. I'm not against either of them as squad options that offer something different off the bench. |  | | |

I think that’s about right. I think we’ll want to get to something like the below. Obviously enciso goes into the first team if he signs and the teams shuffle depending on whether we’re 3-4-2-1 or 4-2-3-1. Potential for some of our signings to be under 21 so that might give us more breathing room.

Agree on the 6 nailed on CB. But as per point that’s IF we can get them new clubs! A tall order.
May have to take a bath on a few values, or share of loan wages.
Taylor, I actually quite rate as he’s with Nunez would be the closest to the 8 we need. But frankly he may need to make way.
McAteer has improved and like Johnson has great energy/physicality, which I’m sure has impressed GON. We’ll see.
I think Mehemeti is maybe more nailed on, I like him, but Champ maybe his level. I know he is very ambitious and may have impressed GON.

I don’t think getting them out will be a tough ask, it’s more about doing so on the most favourable financial terms for us. There will be suitors, even if they’re 11th hour loan deals. One thing is for sure players like Clarke, Al-Hamadi, Palmer won’t be in our squad come deadline. It’ll just be a case of whether we’re getting a shoddy loan fee and 50% of their wage from a Charlton, or a £3m straight sale from a Wrexham or Stoke. Those deals are probably there on the back burner already, we’ll just be trying to smoke out more favourable ones until such time as we need to act. One way or another they’ll be leaving, | | | |

I think we could end up in a situation where a couple of players stay on the books but aren't registered in the 25.
AAH sadly appears to have a heart condition, so unless this is resolved quickly nobody is going to sign him either as a loan or permanent transfer.
It's a similar situation with Harry Clarke. If another club isn't willing to accept his reported knee issue, then he will stay with us until January. | | | |

It isn't too hard to clear space. Telling a player they wont get a squad place motivates the player and his agent to find another club. Things tend to drag until the end of the window as players want the best opportunity and might have to come to terms with dropping a level or more. |  | | |
