| Match report. Ed Sheeran. Los Angeles (A) 15:56 - Aug 9 with 1479 views | Illinoisblue | The boy’s done bloody well for himself, hasn’t he? 60,000 people gathering in suburban LA on a glorious Saturday night to watch the boy from Fram. It’s just him, his guitars and some foot pedals. Fair play. I wore my Town shirt and got met with a cry of “up the town” outside the ground by a bloke wearing some kind of footy shirt. Wait, ground? That’s doing the SoFi stadium a disservice. $5billion with a b gets you a very nice venue. And cans of Michelob at $23 each plus tax. The show? Full confessional, only heard of five Ed songs - two of those because they’re inextricably linked with ITFC and another because it was played at a family funeral. But even the ones that weren’t recognizable were pleasant enough. The section to our right were young and energetic and dancing wildly, including a blonde California girl in the pinstripe Umbro shirt from two years ago. Perfect, of course, was the phone-waving crowd favorite. Then it was off into the Californian night to find an Uber that cost less than $200 to go five miles. | |

But I'm not a Sheeran fan, hate stadium gigs, and hate being ripped off (especially for what I'd spend on a night out on a can of lager I'd never want to drink). I find the Sheeran thing fascinating though, and I'm told by people who know him that he's a very nice, grounded guy, which must be extremely difficult with so much money and freedom.

Haha - No but I stopped at the Randy’s that famous donut place which the Simpson’s nicked a version of for it’s credits and has been in plenty of films. It’s fine around there really. The only time I’ve ever been genuinely scared by walking in the wrong direction by error in the US was in Memphis, when I lost by bearings after night on Beale Street. My uber may have saved my life. Outside of that it’s usually a bit overblown if you keep your wits about mind your own business I find. Of course there are exceptions in most cities but you never really find yourself there, apparently “there” was very walkable to do in Memphis though.

It’s a total cluster getting out of there. Really bad design. Stadium is something else, though!
