Are we confident of beating them?

Or is it going to be another case of waiting for new players to have time to gel?

Given our difficult start, very important we get at least something out of this I think.

It usually transpires that big clubs for whatever reason are like juggernauts in that they take time to get up to speed and whilst I don't consider Sunderland a big club we do I believe have a couple immediately after them.
I go for a 2-2 draw. Maybe not the start we would like, but better than a defeat.

Yep, take 3 points from this match, start the end of Sunderland's Premier League honeymoon and bring them into the group of relegation candidates.

They did that to us on the opening day of 2001/02 season.

The fortunes of Sunderland and Ipswich have followed a bit of similarity over the past years. A journey to L1 and the rise and rise through the champ to the prem. That benchmark game at the SoL in our first return back to the championship, under the cosh for a significant period then scoring goals at the right time and seeing out the win. We went on to be promoted then relegated. They got promoted and stayed up. Now we are back to seeing how far each have come.

I feel this will be a building season but 1-3 points in our first game would be great. Dont lose would be ideal. That feels like a tall order with all the change we will have experienced but we can hope the spirit of last year, the hurt of 2 years ago, and the new excitement for this year carries us on the day.

I'm optimistic Sunderland will have 2nd season syndrome. Shame we don't play them later in the season when they have mid week Europa league games.

Will Lukic and Florentino both start do we think?

I think they will. Matty & Taylor won't start having had no preseason games with the rest of the team.

I'm seldom confident of a win - just quietly hopeful. I'll take a good performance and a draw, or possibly even a narrow loss as long as we play well.

Poll: Will you be watching the 3rd/4th place play off game?

They should be firm favourites tbh. Excellent well organised side with a real cutting edge up front. Tough opening fixture, would take a draw.

Who will our starting Centre Forward be?

Who will our starting creative midfielder be?

Who will their starting Centre Forward be?

Who will their starting creative midfielder be?

How well have any of the above done in the Premier League before?

Those five questions mean that I am hopeful, but not yet confident!

Never talk before a game. I’ve lived by this rule all my life as a player and supporter.

hopeful but not confident. Until we see a full intensity match, none of us can be certain. The lack of intensity in friendlies is an issue for everyone. It would help if the first round of EFL league cup included Premier teams so at least they get a proper work out prior to the first league fixture.
