I think the German work and leisure culture are very different to here in the UK. It may have changed by now but a few years ago a small party from the engineering firm i worked for took a trip over to look at a CNC work centre. The relaxed working environment was quite a shock. These machines were cutting large amounts of metal with swarf everywhere. No safety glasses being worn, some operators just wearing sandals and little or no safety clothing.
The biggest thing though was stacks of beer crates beside every m/c which could be consumed during their breaks. Surprised that by the time they left off from their shift that they weren't all rat arsed. I would imagine things have changed over the years, or there could be quite a few German m/c tool operators with a few digits missing. | | | |
