And I don't mean on the pitch. Two of our little group have issues with their phones having Google Wallets but not having NFC technology, and it's only me pointing out that it needs both that's got them sorting it. They thought everything would be fine as they downloaded the ticket no problem.
If you extrapolate that across 30,000 people I can see it being carnage at the turnstiles tomorrow!

I know of a long time season ticket holder who put his Sunderland ticket up for resale as he worried he didn't understand what to do and was afraid of causing a hold up at the turnstiles. Many of that generation just use the phone for phone calls (novel I know..), receiving text messages and taking photos... |
A cynic might suggest that this is a side-effect of the new rules that the club won't be all that concerned about.
If older ST-holders stop coming, or hand back their tickets, their seats will most likely be taken by younger ST holders who won't qualify for a concession, and will be more likely to buy food/drink/merchandise at the ground. |  |

Tend to agree. What people need to do is forgo two hours in the pub before the game on this occasion to check their ticket works. But I fully predict complaints from people who left the Arcade Tavern at 2.40pm that they missed kick off.

Hang on a Roly Mo, that says NFC and QR or bar codes. Have we only implemented half the possible (and expected) solution?
I'm not a ST holder so unaffected but that's what I'm seeing from that quotation from the Handbook. |
This article is more technical, so I won't use the word interesting, but its focused on the NFC technology.

You will see they make the point the PL rules are digital neutral, its the clubs who have chosen NFC. They also mention 15 clubs, so I'm assuming some clubs haven't gone NFC only yet.
They believe its more about throughput, ie NFC should be quicker than security
Also note the paragraph towards the end where Liverpool are warning holders do not delete the NFC card from your wallet as it may not be possible to re-download it. |  | | |

A cynic might also think the whole 'get there really early' and 'we might relax the 2pm fan zone entry post Liverpool' is designed to extract as much money out of people's pockets as possible too.
