Some have been openly inflammatory and cruel. The far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, posted footage on X from a women’s prison where he said he was responsible for the dire conditions in the facility. When one prisoner told him they were not receiving medical care, showering or receiving clean clothing, Ben-Gvir said: “The good conditions in the prisons are over. This is the current situation, and I am directly responsible for everything. I am pleased with these conditions.” '

It also looks like Miliband is about to change our relationship with Israel and announce new sanctions today. Better late than never. |
Those opposing the sanctions that the UK are expected to announce soon say that it will put British lives in danger, as we have a close military/security relationship with Israel that helps keep us safe, and that will no longer happen. In other words, if we want to keep ourselves safe, we need to let them carry on killing Palestinians. There's no real hope for that region, is there? If it's true that Israelis want to see every Palestinian man, woman and child killed, you can bet that you'll get the same answer from Palestinians re Israelis.

Yeah, I don’t see any hope for that area unfortunately. I don’t know what the genuine security implications would be. In theory have Israel as allies in that region makes some sense, but at what cost?

I would think that the real problem isn't Israel and whether we are allies with them or not. It's the United States. They have real power to hurt us if we piss them off over Israel. I wouldn't be surprised if that prevents UK gov from going as far as it might want to when it comes to sanctions and rhetoric. If I was PM, or foreign sec, or chancellor, even if I really wanted to give Israel a slap down, I'd be considering if it is worth it in the face of US blowback. Sad pragmatic reality of international relations, and who has the real power.

That is not really a comparable situation though is it. Unless you think we should be prepared to go to war over this? Perhaps more applicable to reference Eden and the Suez crisis. Eisenhower tells him to back off from what was so far a successful operation. Britain's moment as a superpower was clearly over, and uncle Sam has been calling the shots ever since. Bloke is a psychopath and probably forgot that Israel broke into the Latin American arms market by arming Argentina the first time around. Perhaps he’s lusting for more death and more arms sales by ramping up all this “the UK is antisemitic” and Falklands were stolen rhetoric. Either way, it’s good to see more people of power calling out Israel

That is the line that Tom Tugendhat, the shadow Foreign Secretary, has taken but a former Defence Secretary, Malcolm Rifkind, who is Jewish, said on the World Service last night that Israel is far more dependent on us for security and intelligence than we are on them. Another thing to bear in mind is that it was said on the World Service today that 11 other countries are to follow suit with corresponding sanctions. And this follows on from co-ordinated sanctions in 2025 on Israeli ministers, and co-ordinated sanctions in June, in connection with the West Bank. https://www.gov.uk/government/ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/art [Post edited 8 Sep 17:45]

| To think some of you on here supported these Israeli w@nkers. on 16:14 - Sep 8 with 839 views | DJR | The former Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert has backed Ed Miliband’s announcement. Olmert told the Guardian: "The British government decision became unavoidable as a result of a continuous effort of ethnic cleansing perpetrated by a large group of Jewish terrorists in the West Bank. The crimes of these terrorists are actively assisted by police and military units over a long period of time. The highest levels of government led by minister of defence Katz and prime minister Netanyahu are actively supporting these terrorists and avoid taking the necessary measures to stop it. Millions of Israelis are appalled by this terror and are actively resisting the terrorists. Sanctions are directed against the terrorists not against Israel, and as such they are unavoidable." | | | |

| To think some of you on here supported these Israeli w@nkers. on 01:04 - Sep 7 by Clapham_Junction | There was no formal conflict, but there were massacres of the Jewish population by the Arab population prior to Zionist immigration from Europe starting. Going back to the original post, the survey questions were (translated): The book of Joshua tells us that when the Israelites conquered the city of Jericho, they killed all its inhabitants. Do you think this was a justified act? Do you support or oppose the claim that the IDF, when conquering an enemy city, should act in a similar way to how the Israelites acted when they conquered Jericho under Joshua, namely, killing all its inhabitants? The sample size was just over 1,000, which is fairly common for opinion polls. It's been noticeable down here that quite a few prominent Israelis and Americans have been calling for Trump to recognise the Argentine claim to the Falklands to punish the UK for its opposition to Israel's actions in Gaza. |
Going back further pre -Islam it was mainly a Jewish and Christian and Zoroastrian region. The Islam conquests of the 7th century sweeping from the west changed all that. And it would not have been bloodless. Then there were the crusades of the middle ages. The region has not been short of fighting.

Not a surprise. Likud and Hamas rely on the existence of each other to keep themselves in power. If there was peace, neither would receive much support. Going back to the posts about UK sanctions, I recall previous discussions on here where it was said to be outrageous (and of course anti-semitic) to claim that Israel directly interfered in British politics. Now it is clearly being done in the open (with their Foreign Minister posting on Twitter that he has had calls with the Tory and Reform leaders - and the Canadian opposition leader), hopefully that view has been finally dispelled
