Some have been openly inflammatory and cruel. The far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, posted footage on X from a women’s prison where he said he was responsible for the dire conditions in the facility. When one prisoner told him they were not receiving medical care, showering or receiving clean clothing, Ben-Gvir said: “The good conditions in the prisons are over. This is the current situation, and I am directly responsible for everything. I am pleased with these conditions.” '

Yep, you really have to hope there is a flaw somewhere in their survey process. Otherwise, feck, its incredible. How a nation goes from the excitement and potential of a new homeland to almost half the population wanting to murder every man, woman and child of the neighboring country in less then 80 years is beyond me. Wanting every man and women murdered is bad enough. But the child bit just scares the feck outta me

Where are they now, those that expressed moral indignation and rage on October 7th, pretending that those events happened in a void and banged the drums of war? On the wrong side of history, that's where.

Sobering reading. For those who’ve been paying attention, has Burnham suggested or hinted at a change of relations with Isreal, or are we still going to prop up that murderous regime?

Sorry to break the consensus on this thread (and potentially piss off people I like), but there was every reason to feel 'moral indignation and rage on October 7th'. It was a disgusting bloodthirsty attack and I don't see what's happened since, changes that.

What about all the stuff that happened before 7th October? It was a horrendous attack and most people here don't condone it, however that event was not the start of these troubles, just another event on the increasingly sad timeline

Both ways. The fight for the land which is called Israel and Palestine has existed since biblical times, hence the references in the text. And, unfortunately, the "eye for an eye" approach took root to the point where extremists on both sides do not see the other group as people, but threats who will hurt, harm and kill them if they are given the opportunity. Until sensible heads pervade, things will not change, and the extremists in Israel currently hold more power. Edit: To correct, the claims for the land have existed since biblical times, but not physical conflict. [Post edited 6 Sep 19:33]

Not always. My missus is a Welsh Nat and hasn’t ever felt the need to resort to violence and bloodshed (unless I don’t do what I’m told, but that’s unrelated!). Quite the opposite. There are a lot of people like her who want Wales to be an opening and welcoming country. It’s just having to kowtow to Westminster they don’t like, but again wouldn’t bring violence into their argument at all. My point, if I have one, is that nationalism doesn’t have to turn people into murderous criminals like the Israeli regime. You can’t be fiercely nationalistic yet realise what’s best for your country is collaboration, mutual benefits through friendship and the rule of law, etc. [Post edited 6 Sep 19:23]

No it hasn’t, that’s a complete myth. 150 years ago there was no Israel -Palestine conflict.

Apologies - the claims, which are the root of existence for both Israel and Palestine, were born from biblical times. Conflict came out because of the Zionist movement in the late 19th century, slightly ironically due to persecution of Jewish people in Europe.

There was no formal conflict, but there were massacres of the Jewish population by the Arab population prior to Zionist immigration from Europe starting. Going back to the original post, the survey questions were (translated): The book of Joshua tells us that when the Israelites conquered the city of Jericho, they killed all its inhabitants. Do you think this was a justified act? Do you support or oppose the claim that the IDF, when conquering an enemy city, should act in a similar way to how the Israelites acted when they conquered Jericho under Joshua, namely, killing all its inhabitants? The sample size was just over 1,000, which is fairly common for opinion polls. It's been noticeable down here that quite a few prominent Israelis and Americans have been calling for Trump to recognise the Argentine claim to the Falklands to punish the UK for its opposition to Israel's actions in Gaza.

It also looks like Miliband is about to change our relationship with Israel and announce new sanctions today. Better late than never.

And Huckerby doubling down on his claim that Miliband (a Jew) is a Jew-hater. How can it be antisemitic to put in place sanctions that are designed to keep alive the perhaps futile chance of a two-state solution? But then again, in recent years the definition of antisemitism has frequently been stretched way beyond its proper meaning.

In my humble opinion, the word antisemitic has been completely devalued by widespread abuse and manipulation, much to the detriment of good Jewish people everywhere and the human race as a whole.
