| Liverpool's 2nd goal 18:17 - Sep 11 with 985 views | quad | I'm not trying to slate Greaves too much as I think overall he has done okay. But I was really disappointed with Liverpool's 2nd goal and Greaves defending. He must have been standing a metre off him and surely in that situation he needs to get a lot tighter to him. Allowing a player of Isak's quality enough space to twist, turn and manipulate the ball is surely inviting him to get a shot away. He surely needs to learn from this as it seems very naive at this level. I don't think Scherpen is at fault personally. He needs better protection from defence. | | | | |

Very good point and I hadn't even considered that. Watching the goal back Diop was far too high up the pitch and his light-hearted jog back was pathetic. Thanks for pointing that out.

And quite what Scherpen thought he was doing there. Several players could have done better on both goals, Greaves amongst them.

| Liverpool's 2nd goal on 19:55 - Sep 11 with 774 views | Adams | Once it got to Isak, he was always likely to get a shot away against Greaves. I would rather look further back at the build-up than blame Greaves when left one-on-one with Isak. The whole defence was far too high when the pass was played, and Gokpo had zero pressure when he recieved the ball (or at any point). The defence also wasn't in a good line. | | | |
| Liverpool's 2nd goal on 20:00 - Sep 11 with 741 views | bsw72 | Diop and Scherpen both ball watching, the pass from Gakpo caught them out as it was sublime, by then too late for Scherpen to go back and Greaves actually did well initially to cover. Worth remembering that’s why the two Liverpool players involved are valued at a combined worth of £200+ million. | | | |

Surely if Greaves marks him tight it forces Isak to either beat him or initiate contact to win a penalty. Sitting off him is inviting him to shoot. Probably would have scored anyway, but at least it makes it more difficult. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It was brilliant. Done both of them up like a kipper to be fair.

Oh, he could have done better, but it's a bit of a mismatch. He's not a great one-on-one defender at this level. There were much bigger and worse issues, and very basic things in the build-up, which caused us to be in that position.

The keeper needs to back pedal once Greaves successfully gets back on the cover and holds him up, if he did then it’s very difficult to Isak to score from that position - poor from Diop and from Scherpen

Agreed. I think Greaves did well not to end up on his backside after changing direction multiple times whilst running backwards!
