Looking forward to watching and seeing how they get on, although obviously Luton are clear favourites. This fixture is probably the biggest reminder of how far our club has progressed, since the first team lost to Pompey in Nov '22 with a team including Woolfy, Morsy and Burns.

It's not meant for money clubs to get minutes in for their tick-box youth sides, it's meant for real clubs to have a chance at Wembley they would never get ordinarily. It's a farce and as ever with modern football, everyone just kinda accepts it because "money".

Does not seem top matter that much as an u21 side has never reached the final, never mind win it. Personally when we were in L1 I enjoyed the EFL Trophy games against u21 teams. Hopefully a good few of those u21 players are making a decent career.

Not many English youngsters who are at Prem (or even Champ) academies have careers afterwards these days. It's tick box exercise because the clubs have to do it, theres not much interest in developing young English talent when you buy better for cheaper from abroad or let a lower level club bed them in, and then sign them. Even our own Academy, not a single product near our first team. Most of our youngsters are more likely to end up playing for Leiston, Chelmsford and Yarmouth then they have ever playing for Town, even the good ones. It's not the 70's anymore. Premier League shouldn't be anywhere near the EFL Trophy, thats the truth and we're way too passive to allow it as supporters in England, because, again, money.

Fully agree, think it would be so much better if PL U21s were replaced by National League teams. Considering the gap in quality between NL and L2 isn't even that big anymore, you'd get some of them going deep in the competition and it would mean more to the clubs involved than playing some random U21 side

I agree, it is wrong and demeaning for lower league teams. PL clubs would no doubt like their U21 teams to play in the lower leagues one day, as they are now introducing in the women's game. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I did not feel we were demeaned when we were playing Spurs/ Aresenal Hammers u21s when we were in L1. Quite enjoyed seeing promising youngsters. From memory, those teams looked a lot better than our u21s on Sky.
