Mordaunt comes across well. Gove is ok. Sturgeon was ok as well really. Won't go into detail until you have watched.
One thing it highlights though is that things move far slower in a country which follows international law, wants to get the facts and needs a united front versus a country ruled by one man willing to lie and create their own facts who don't really care about international law.
I hope we have some sort of top secret rapid response plan with Europe that doesn't wait for the US. | | | |

I am sure that in the event of the US, and by extension NATO failing us, we would be quickly speaking to the likes of France directly for support.

Apparently they’re doing a remake of that nightmare fuel… it’s a bit like trying to keep quiet the ending of the “planet of the apes” twist in the post internet age…. It’s surely impossible as we’d lived under the potential apocalypse for decades…and at that point it was at a higher possibility of happening in the public mind I guess than since the Cuban missile crisis. | |

I'm sure we'd be reaching out to other EU friends too, we still have them, believe it or not, indeed it is these states that are increasingly conscious of the threat from the east and the fact that they may not be able to rely on the USA for help like they used to.
I just named France specifically because they are the ones we are closest to both geographically and in terms of military cooperation. The UK and France also signed the Northwood Declaration in 2025 which goes beyond simply saying "we are friends and NATO allies" They are also the only other European nation with an independently operated nuclear deterrent.
I wonder if we might also be able to call upon Portugal, given we have the worlds oldest bilateral defence agreement with them, though I suspect they don't have much useful to offer in terms of hardware or expertise in this scenario. | |

If we were left entirely on our own, it wouldn't matter how much we spent, the UK's military has not been designed or intended to defend the country alone since the 19th century. In practical terms, it has never really been able to.
Rare successes such as the Spanish Armada involved an awful lot of luck - and even then, we were allied with the Dutch, who were tying up most of the Spanish army in the Low Countries, which is why their fleet had to fight its way the length of the Channel to pick the Duke of Parma and his troops up from there, rather than attempting a more convenient landing further west. |  |

I'm seeing a lot of noise form the more tin-foil-hat people that this show is just another piece of propaganda to prepare us all for the conflict 'they' (by which I think is meant those meddling global elites) are planning for us.

I keep seeing comments like "Michael Gove, nah I'm out" and likewise "Sturgeon? She's horrible, won't be watching"
This argument misses the point. It's meant to be a realistic exercise involving people who at least have some experience of government and these types of meetings, entertainment is not the primary aim, else they would have just used professional actors.
You were never going to get currently serving cabinet members to play out this scenario for public scrutiny (though no doubt they will do similar exercises privately). So 'has-beens' is the next best thing.
When something like what is depicted kicks off, we don't get to choose who is in charge at that moment. Those currently in power are going to have equal numbers of critics and often with good reason. Most scarily, they will have no experience in dealing with this kind of crisis.
Try and list the current cabinet members who would fill you with confidence. | |

I'm up to part 3 now and I've found it pretty thought provoking and, from as far as I can tell, a realistic depiction of the state of our national defences. As mentioned in the programme, we have no Iron Dome type defence, our only ballistic missile defenses are those aboard ships that may be undergoing maintenance or the other side of the world.
