I get the nostalgia but I don't really buy it. Liverpool won 11 titles in 18 years before the Premier League existed, and Forest in 78 and Town in 62 were outliers even back then. Leicester won it in 2016, which is more recent than either.
Germany kept 50+1 fan ownership and Bayern still won eleven on the bounce, so community ownership doesn't stop one club running away with it. The money does that.
The old First Division turned over £170m in 1991/92. Premier League clubs made £6.8bn last season. Satellite and streaming turned it into a global product, and global capital followed, same as it has with most of the FTSE. Eleven clubs are now US-owned, whereas the petrol state money is really two clubs.
The "good old days" also had half-empty, crumbling grounds, Bradford, Heysel and Hillsborough. Players were never just local lads once the maximum wage went and Bosman came in.
As for Keegan, don’t forget he went to Hamburg for the money and stage, then built that Newcastle side on John Hall's millions and a world record fee for Shearer in the early Sky years. He was the face of the new era as much as the end of the old one.

You are correct I am what you regard as old I'm 75 still working part time. Yes I remember standing on a box watching Sir Alf's team winning the the 1st division, I also remember when players were on a £100 maximum wage & Ted Philips working as a gamekeeper out of season, was that socialism at its finest. Yes the Premier League has loaded the finances to far the other way, with wealthy owner's taking over clubs. Where would you prefer to be in League 1 with Marcus Evans in charge, or where we are now.
However will agree with you that the EPL is skewered towards the financial power of so called "big 6". | | | |

Hasn't the top league always been skewed to the clubs with the biggest incomes, in the past it was the teams with the biggest attendances (when ticket sales actually generated the income). All that has happened is that the teams with the history of success have attracted the big investors, hence the the big teams in the 70s are still the big teams 50 years on. | | | |

It is not all bad, with increased popularity of the sport, filled stadiums, and option to watch our team on TV more.
However, football is getting worse in many respects with too many competitions (such as the Nations League), too much expansion of competitions, diminishing of the FA Cup, a growing gap between the Championship and Premier League, U21 teams playing first teams, too much advertising, VAR, teams choosing not to play wearing proper colours/badges to sell third/fourth shirts etc. Players are paid astronomical wages at a time fans are asked to pay more and more, with some clubs preferring tourists to long-standing fans. Then there is the Man City saga, that is damaging the game too. |  | | |

I don’t agree with that. There has been a marked drop in atmosphere in the big grounds due to global fans wanting to come and watch a spectacle as opposed to being football fans. Couldn’t believe it away at Chelsea last time when we scored and I tried to give it to the home end to be met with a sea of cameras
Ultimately a large part of the Premier League ‘product’ is the atmosphere, without that you have a far less attractive ‘product’. This will be noticed eventually but it will be too late to rectify it | | | |

Taking away over a thousand fans so close to the pitch can't have helped atmosphere, and those watching on TV see adverts rather than people's faces
We are fortunate to have a lovely old stadium where fans are so close to the pitch. I don’t remember atmosphere being better than it is now, but maybe it was in the glory years of the 70s and 80s when fans were packed in. At the time we split the North Stand into two tiers the atmosphere did suffer however.
I expect the new stadiums at Everton, Man City, Sunderland, West Ham have less atmosphere than the original ones. | | | |

Before we replace all of the other seats with supersized LED systems, and the viewers at home too, I think maybe Mr Infantino needs to be replaced with a supersized LED system.
A first step, but my goodness there are a lot of steps needing to be taken to correct much of the bobbins that has crept into the game like digitised Japanese knotweed.
